Turn the spin around, people
We are all so good at acting defensive, we forgot how to play offense. We look like my young daughter's soccer team, all gathered around our goal, protecting it. Waiting for the other team to take another shot at us, so we can go, 'Nuh-uh!' and 'how dare they spin it that way!'

With Mrs. King's funeral...go offensive. For God's sake, what the repubs are saying is ridiculous! Don't hide, waiting for the 'pubs to start the conversation, leaving you to defend (again!). If we had some role models in Washington, that would be nice. But often we don't, so we can't sit here waiting to defend our goal again. Take the ball and cross the line.

Here's what I posted at another site:

I don't understand why the right is so upset about any of the statements made by pastors or former presidents at this civil rights leader's funeral -- none of the speakers said Bush did or didn't do anything. There was no personal bashing. I'm puzzled.

I can only guess that the right must feel really guilty to jump to that conclusion -- to just assume that speakers were pointing fingers when everything they talked about (poor, racial equality, wiretapping, etc) either happened to, or was dear to, Mrs. King.

How dare the Republicans make this all about them. How dare they dishonor the funeral of one of the heroes of this country! Meglomania at its worst. How unpatriotic. For shame.

I'm not proud of the way I have handled myself in the past, cowering even while knowing WE WERE RIGHT. We spend too much time being Eeyore. We MUST turn this ball around! We must stop REacting to biased news stories, we must ignore THE OTHERS (as I fondly call them thanks to LOST), and we MUST jump on these events FIRST -- not wait to react to their stories, but start our own stories and stay strong. We know their moves. We need to cross that center line, grab that ball and run like hell, team.

2. I don't listen to Sean Hannity or Rush Limbaugh so...
Are they the ones making all the noise? Or was it on a "Freep" site, another place I don't go?

4. And that's probably why I'm so "tuned out" anymore
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 11:44 AM by DaveTheWave
But I do confess to indulging myself, looking at a newsbabe read the headlines from time to time, but I never watch someone's opinion show.

7. I had to do a Google on him
I never heard of the guy. I only know about Rita Cosby on MSNBC. Although I like the Playboy Bunny looking newsbabes, I do like to see someone else who isn't "perfect" succeed in the business and shown some respect. I don't watch her though, just know who she is.

9. I have one question about Rita Cosby...
How in the world does someone with a voice that sounds like she's a one-lunged, two pack a day smoking asthmatic get a job in broadcasting?

13. I'm not sure
She definitely isn't cut out for radio with that voice. She must have done a big story or something a while ago to get where she is today I'm guessing. She's a little heavy weight-wise and overweight people do tend to be discriminated against so I was glad to see someone make it that wasn't a size 1. But honestly, I think I've only watched her for about 2 minutes total while flipping through channels.

I'm getting curious about her now. I might look up her bio later today and see how she got where she is.
No matter what though I still think it's a good thing that some networks put on normal looking people versus nothing but Victoria Secret and Calvin Klien looking models.

6. ...shameless...
'Will-Pitt-like' self-kick. :D

But seriously, can I get an AMEN out there? A recommendation? Anyone?
If not, tell me why I'm wrong.

We will never win this game if our game-plan is simply to react.

8. Here's an amen for you. Though I do think it's a good thing that they are
exposing themselves, and we need to let them (not smack them completely back into their closets).
Everytime they expose themselves more people wake up to what they are.

10. You got it.
As I said in other threads, this funeral was a political event. Considering Mrs. King carried on the work of MLK how could it not be? Nationally televised, four presidents, other dignitaries, etc.

Did Bush attend because he was her buddy? LOL.

12. your right
I likened it to the old biddies who come to irish wakes and are appalled by the funny stories about the deceased. The same ones who attacked Jacqueline Kennedy for her stoicism. (She didn't really care enough to mourn). It's petty. President Bush coming to the funeral after the budget he passed and Katrina was like a banker who said a eulogy at a funeral where he is foreclosing on the widow.

19. and not just today, but everyday
The spin machine needs to be kept busy on all fronts, not just this one. Sure, they will name call, bash us, try to humiliate us as they have in the past. the only way to stop them is to do it so loudly and so often that it is no longer something they can spin as shocking or horrible but something they must meet us at the table to discuss openly and honestly. the only way to do it is to wear the bullseyes proudly until they tire of laughing and begin to listen.

Oh come on--NOBODY is gonna be THAT stupid. When our guys go on about the very issues that have featured so prominently on the national stage, nobody is going to believe it was just a coincidence.
