Here is the answer to the "How dare they?!" huffers over the funeral |
|
Just say this:
You wanted speakers to talk _about_ her work, I saw some speakers _continuing_ her work. Personally, I felt that was as great a tribute to her as any. More, since I think that she probably would have preferred that to being personally lauded.

political opportunism of the worst kind. The kind thats hurts the very causes the speakers wanted to support.

5. To many.. but mainly to the people who stand for what was being |
|
denounced. Truth hurts.
Anyone who would change their mind about supporting a cause due to some remarks in a funeral eulogy probably wasn't going to be much of a fighter for said cause anyway. Their loss, not ours.

17. Hnmm, it seems the 'many' are all of the repub persuasion |
|
I wonder why that is???? It didn't seem to hurt the FAMILY and FRIENDS of Mrs. King, they gave standing OVATIONS to the speakers and the speeches and, after all, it is up to the family and friends to determine the best way to celebrate Mrs. King's life, right???

not the ass-kissing media nor the ranting repubs and their supporters. I also think the critics use of the word 'class' is code word for the racists as it has been used while criticizing the service.

And I also knew that there would be "tut tut" posts on DU about it. Tell you what, folks: If you're so all-fired upset about Mrs. King's memorial service in her home church by the people who knew her best, by all means organize a memorial service of your own for Mrs. King, and do it the "right" way.
Of course, that being too much to ask, I will simply ask the tut tutters to establish their credibility and bona fides by directing us to similar posts they made from 2004 about the Ronald Reagan Memorial Ten Day Hagio-thon. Because if you didn't find THAT over the top, then your pissy-ass whining now about Mrs. King's memorial should not be heard.

To the people screaming about how the funeral was "politicized", tell them this: ML and Coretta Scott King were political people. They devoted their lives to politics. Their spiritual beliefs were used to change the hearts and political will of this country for the better. What else would they talk about at the death of such politically immersed people? Their cooking? Their family vacations?
On Jerry Springer's show this morning he pointed out that when Mickey Mantle died in '95, his funeral was full of baseball stories because that is what made up his life.

12. Yes it was a tribute, that is the point |

This woman was a fighter for all the issues that were raised at her funeral. And I am sure she would have wanted people to speak up about those issues just as they did and not lay down in the face of the repression that Bush and his pals have tried to impose on us. Just because Bush is there, we can't speak about the horrible policies that has government has instituted? Nonsense. All the better to do it, since he mainly allows himself to only be in the company of those who agree with him, let him see what the populace really thinks of his programs.
No, a funeral is a place to respect and honor the person who has died, and not speaking out would have been the greatest insult to Mrs. King. Who cares about insulting Bush, Bush who cares nothing about insulting the people in that room and around the country on a daily basis. We as the opposition must take opportunities like this to speak out and say what is true. Isn't that what we ask of our congressional representatives every day. Why aren't they speaking out? Why are they continuing to be polite at the State of the Union address or in Congressional hearings or anywhere else. No more being polite. Being polite means not speaking the truth and that has to stop. Speak the truth wherever and whenever. I applaud those who spoke up at the funeral!

chance to talk about this administration forcing the blacks, females and dems to shut up. and i bet the blacks in my community, even those not political, will recognize the face. and maybe they will ask why i have her on my car. and then i can talk to our black community of uniting and taking power back.
and being in a red community, for this lily white family to go around with a black face on our car will be kick ass, and a good lesson for my boys in honoring black culture and rights and movement.
