What Would You Call a Form of Government?
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 12:26 PM by The Whiskey Priest

Where only the rich have access to the government,

Where only the rich have access to health care,

Where only the rich have access to retirement with dignity,

Where only the rich have access to discretionary time,

Where only the rich have access to ownership of the means of production,

Where only the rich have access to the courts,

Where only the rich have access to means for flouting the law,

Where only the rich have access to the seats of government,

Where only the rich have access to means to insure a decent standard of living,

Where only the rich have escaped taxation.

Is this not where we stand at the moment? What form of government does this indicate?

11. The rich are the corporacrats. It's a corporatocracy (eg fascism).
The corporacrats control everything, now,...except aspects of the judiciary. They are still working on that one but certainly know how to manipulate it.

3. I'm not rich.
I have access to health care (it's expensive and it sucks, but I have access to it).

I'm damn sure going to retire with dignity--I'm sacrificing current wants and putting away for it, investing prudently.

I'm not sure about "insuring" a decent standard of living. I doubt I'll ever be able to "insure" that.

I agree with you about only the rich having access to NATIONAL seats of government--local is fifferent--and escaping (for the most part) taxation.

I guess it would help to define "rich." Is "rich" anyone above poverty level?

12. What happens when you are required to self-fund your health care?
and if recent history proves anything there is nothing that guaranties your investments will be there...no matter how good they look at the moment.

How are the "corporatists" going to take away my savings?

What alternative social structure do you propose?

6. Plutocracy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plutocracy

A plutocracy is a form of government where all the state's decisions are centralized in an affluent wealthy class of citizenry, and the degree of economic inequality is high while the level of social mobility is low. This can apply to a multitude of government systems, as the key elements of plutocracy transcend and often occur concomitantly with the features of those systems. The word "plutocracy" itself is derived from the ancient Greek root ploutos, meaning wealth.
