what they think is appropriate.

Conservatives were apoplectic, suggesting that it was inappropriate to inject politics into the funeral for a... um, well... political activist.

Whatever.

Coretta must have been rolling in her casket when Mr. Bush rose to sing her praises. He used her husband's birthday in 2003 to announce his opposition to affirmative action. He used her husband's birthday in 2004 to appoint a federal judge (Pickering) that many blacks felt had a suspect record on racial sensitivity. It seems likely that were she able to speak, she would have told Bush to sit down, cheered on Lowry and Kennedy, and joined the mourners in the standing ovation they gave to Carter's comments.

That's whose opinion we care about.

1. I don't think it's destined at the black community
the blacks are way to smart to fall for such rhetoric. It's targeted at the white people, the last thing the powerful would want you to know, is to understand truly what the Kings were talking about.

2. Conservatives are clown shoes
King stood for Affirmative Action, Help for the poor, Affirmative Action.....Things they've had no trouble lambasting in the pass.

It reminds me how they were so up in arms over Kerry's comments about Cheney's daughter. As if they suddenly cared about gay rights.

No one is falling for these bigot's remarks except for other bigots...

... as if feeding people, peaceful co-existence, respect for others, practicing what you preach and helping mankind are POLITICAL issues to begin with?

They're gollda*n HUMAN  issues!! And the GOP'ers should be downright embarrassed that it's so OBVIOUS for even the most non-political person to equate those issues with Democrats/Liberals rather than Republicans/Conservatives. The only reason they're "issues" at all is because the Right Wing refuses to DEAL with them and/or infuse any sense of DECENCY into any of its friggin' policies !!

THAT'S what they should have their knickers in a twist over ... the fact that they're all assholes and the rest of the world KNOWS it without anyone actually pointing it out!!

As a white person, i am sickened and sometimes still astonished (although i shouldn't be) at the depth of ignorance and white supremacists attitudes that still exist in this country today, indeed seems to be further cultivated most particularly in the fascists corporate MSM (FCMSM).

What is presented in the fcmsm is presented as if from Orwell's "Ministry of Truth" dept. I have written about the fcmsm and how it is imperative that we (collectively) shut it down - by any means necessary.

Sickened by the fcmsm's treatment of the really glorious memorial service yesterday, i felt compelled to transcribe an audio of Coretta Scott King's reading of Martin's notes found in his pocket at the time of his State Sponsored assassination - it's called the The Ten Commandments of Viet Nam... it is powerful and it is the reason why the Nixon Administration had him murdered. By the way, some of the same people in the Nixon administration are in this administration. (the white house and the pentagon)

7. When I think of Republicans and MLK, I think of the third Monday in Jan.
and how they fought it. Half of them celebrate Robert E. Lee Day on that national holiday.

8. I'm sure they think the regular services & music are "inappropriate," too.
This was just an excuse to bash Dems.

Imus went way out of his way this morning
to make fun of Stevie Wonder's hymn performance.

The problem is: Repukes believe their own 'Here I am,
standing with a black person" photo-op spin.

11. Hey tgnyc you are so right....
95% of us is right on...These conservatives are afraid that the black community will become galvanized and actually work together with other groups to defeat them. The louder they scream and the quicker the respond to events...shows that they are worried.

* can't attend an NAACP meeting but he can go to "Fund Raisers" and other venues that only selected people can go to.

Coretta's Funeral showed the Neocons something they were afraid of...Black America is wide awake...Black America woke up during Katrina and the absolute disregard * gave to the disaster, he refused to cut his vacation short, he went to a fundraiser while not only black babies but white babies were suffering from dehydration and shock. Old people dying in lawn chairs, Tax paying AMERICAN citizens drowning in their homes.

Let's be truth tellers and call a spade a spade.
The Anthem for ALL OF America should be "George Bush doesn't like Hardworking American people, elderly people, children people , poor people, sick people, or the suffering people".

Who cares if he gets his childish feelings hurt!

I've got news for these clueless white talking heads on the TV:

I am old enough to remember seeing in my daddy's church pew fans that had pictures of:
MLK
RFK and
JFK

on them! From the funeral home! Our church didn't have air conditioning so people used those to keep cool during the service!

Don't tell ME politics at a black funeral is inappropriate! :nuke:

15. I remember those fans too...
And lord didn't it get hot in the churches....

I have been saying that all along....these pundits don't know black churches. I am not talking about the commercialized, mega-churches that have sold out to materialism etc...

I remember the days when we would travel to go to the mass choir events, where there would be these amazing singers...no fancy instruments, piano, organ maybe a drum...oh those were the days...remember the heavy choir robes?

I digress....

Black Funerals are about politics...from slavery, Jim Crow, Back of the Bus, equal pay, equal rights...:hi:

16. Exactly. Bush 41 exhibited the problem when admitted that he had never
seen anything like a black Baptist funeral in White Episcopalian Southern churches. They don't understand the difference of culture.

depraved, criminal and despicable low life republicans "think" about anything, doesn't matter one single little bit.
