The man to watch tonight at the Grammys: Kanye West |
|
As you know, West is famous for saying "George Bush doesn't care about black people" during a Katrina fundraiser that was televisioned nationally after the hurricane. And we all know Bush - Kanye was pretty much right with that comment.
Tonight West is up for several Grammys including the top awards of Best Song and Best Album. With everything being said by the RW media about how mean we were to Bush at Coretta Scott-King's funeral, I'm expecting something interesting from Kanye should he win tonight (and they're thinking it's a battle between him and Mariah Carey).
It almost makes me want to watch the Grammys tonight just to see what the guy will say about Bush!

his mom was a doctor it seems:
After attending Columbia College, a local art school in Chicago, and then Chicago State University, West dropped out and began working on his music career. According to recently released police documents, he was briefly investigated for stalking Pat Buchanan. Even while attending school, West produced for local acts. He gained some fame by producing hit singles for major Hip-Hop/R&B artists, including Alicia Keys, Jay-Z, Janet Jackson, Brandy, Talib Kweli, Hugh "MC Son" Ryan and Ludacris. West himself worked on his solo album for a long period of time, having the release pushed back on multiple occasions. Although West's music speaks of his own and black America's economic struggle, in actuality West's mother was a distinguished doctor and Kanye was born into a privileged family.

7. The other way around... |

Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 01:14 PM by SIU_Blue
...his mom used to teach film at chicago state university. My gf's mom is the head of the film dept. there. I have been told that after he got famous she sometimes drove his pimped out cars to work when hers broke down.
edited because of the post above. I have personal knowledge that his mom was not a doctor and not well off. People who are well off do not go to Chicago State, it's one of the poorest colleges in the U.S. I wonder where people get these things?

12. yes, he did grow up with his mom alone... |
|
i don't know about the porn thing, that's wierd.
As for edjucated, he dropped out of college, so i don't know how "Educated" he can be considered. I think it's just an attempt to de-legitimize him.

or tries to, when people manufacture (or talk about if not manufactured. I have no knowledge) a priviledged background. That way he's just a poseur, not a real voice of the streets.

11. Because people would rather portray him as someone |
|
who doesn't know what it's like to struggle so they can try to paint him as a hypocrite. I actually like his music, especially the second album. Diamonds is a great song about the the horrors of the Diamond Trade in Africa. We americans love our diamonds but many times we don't realize how those diamonds came into being with the horrors of some of those diamond minds and cruelty the owners unleash on the people mining for the diamonds

Let's hope he gets through!
