I would like to thank Georgia Republicans.
I did not understand until recently the full ramifications of the Voter ID law they want. I was focused on the "collateral damage" of the innocents who would get caught up in the process without realizing the magnitude of the True Threat.

The law is intended to prevent fraud, specifically, voter impersonation. I was having trouble figuring out who it was that had the time, resources, and motivation to perpetrate such a crime (a felony, by the way), and therefore thought that we were needlessly disenfranchising some voters. I have finally been able to determine what demographic has all the necessary requirements, and therefore must be the target of the law.

You see, this is a difficult crime to pull off. One would have to (before the new picture ID law):

A. Acquire someone else's utility bill, or library card, or other ID, presumably by rooting through their trash.
B. Make sure that person is registered to vote.
C. Be pretty sure that this other person was going to vote against your preference, or else the felony wouldn't be worth it.
D. Determine that persons precinct.
E. Go to that precinct to vote BEFORE that other person gets there.
F. Hope no one at the precinct recognizes you as not that person.
G. Get back to your own precinct to vote, otherwise, again this all wouldn't be worth it. (If you pick someone in your own precinct, it seems like it would at least double the chance of you being recognized, especially since you would have to actually vote twice in that precinct.)
H. And all this just to cast one extra vote.

So, who is it that has the time, transportation, computer access, savvy, and devotion to a cause to do this? Not many students. Not many elderly. Not many invalid. Not many poor or homeless either. No, the answer is…..

Conservative suburban housewives!

So, thank you Georgia Republicans for eliminating what I am sure must have been massive fraud perpetrated by this group, undetected for years and years. After all, who would expect soccer moms to be planning and committing felonies? The price we pay of losing a few poor and elderly votes is surely worth it, balanced by the thousands of illegal votes that must have been cast by minivan driving, Pilates performing, subdivision living, felonious housewives willing to risk multiple years behind bars in order to advance their conservative agenda, most eloquently disseminated by James Dobson.

Thank you.

A Georgia voter.
