There is another way to wake up people about this war besides the draft.
It's known as the ration book. During WWII, the things we take for granted like gas, shoes, even many food items like eggs were rationed. I remember my mother and neighbors trading ration coupons like women trade grocery coupons today to meet their family's needs.

Detroit stopped making cars and put their production 100% into making military hardware. Nylon was unavailable because all available nylon produced was used for parachutes. My uncle who was a machinist made me a homemade pair of roller skates because there were none available in the stores.

Everyone, rich or poor had to make the same sacrifices because the rations affected everyone. So in order to get people's attention about war, they need to be affected by it. Right now, the only people affected by this war are the combatants, the Iraqis and the families of dead soldiers.

So how do we make the common American suffer for this war? Cut off imports. It's as valid a reason for homeland security as closing our southern border. I thought the idea was to keep the terrorists out so this is a way. The terrorists can come in shipping containers as well as through underground tunnels. I mean I know it's nonsense but since it is the chickenhawks' reasoning, lets use it for our purposes.

Without imports our shelves in Walmart and other el cheapo emporiums will become empty in no time. Then they will have to ration the home manufactured goods because there won't be enough to go around. That should get their attention for starters.

1. There are yet other ways...including the one that's in your phone bill
A federal excise tax used to raise funds to pay for the Spanish American War.

Yep, Never removed. A surtax to pay the cost of the war could be a payroll deduction, people could see it and complain every payday.

Of course, that is exactly why it won't happen.

It's easier to just contract the work out.

I say start the draft and watch the war end in 3 weeks. the 4th week bush would be out, and by week 6 he would be in jail.

3. There will not be a draft
Neither political party is going to institute a draft. It would be political suicide for them.
