Record defense spending in new budget

What really needs to be said is that the defense budget is too large. I realize that for a democrat to say that will attract accusations of being soft on national security but what's the alternative? Just keep raising it until the entire economy collapses under its weight? The irony is that the US economy is one of the most socialized in the world through massive government spending on armaments. If the country is to survive, someone someday is going to have to state the obvious and announce that defense spending needs to be cut.
