Did you call your Senator today and oppose illegal Wiretaps?
Sign in here if you responded to Senator Feingold's call for a telephonic blitzkrieg of Washington. If you haven't called, please do so, our Leadership needs to be reminded that the People are watching. If you have called, thank you but you need to call again and let them know that the President was wiretapping long before the Use of Force Resolution and long before 9/11. This invalidates the argument offered by the President's Attorney General and they need to know that WE know.

The reason for this post, is that I do not see a great deal of fervor on this board for Russ's call to action. I can't recall how many times I've read posts looking for one of our leaders to call on us and respond with action. "Tell us what to do", is invariably the request from many. Well, Senator Feingold is standing up and asking for your help. He has stood up for our values, even when most of us didn't even know we shared those values. His was the lone vote against the Patriot Act and he has held the breech while others remained silent. Can we not now show our appreciation by responding to his call? I beg of you, head to your phone, right now and make a call to all our Senators and tell them, "We are watching. We will not be spied upon, lied upon and preyed upon." Tell them, "We refuse to live in fear of a tyrant, regardless of his nationality or country of origin." I refuse to suffer these Intolerable Acts of King George W any longer and I am asking you to heed the Senators call.

If we are to force an impeachment, the Democratic Senators need to know we are here to support that call. If we are to force an impeachment, the Republican Senators need to know we are here and prepared to call treason, "Treason!" Now, I know many of you are still bummed out and pissed off over the Alito nomination, none more so than I, but that does not mean our weapon is ineffective. Last year, we shut down Washington in order to get Barbara to stand up for us. That was 1 Senator. This year, we got 25 to stand up for us. The ringing phone works people, it really does. Let's take this baby out for another test drive and see if we can't shake the Chimp out of his tree. We got started too late with Alito, that was Our mistake; let's not allow such recent mistakes to be repeated so soon.

The most likely Republican suspects to listen to reason are DeWine, Graham and Spectre. If we can persuade 2 of these 3 to honor our Constitution, we can help put an end to this nightmare. This must stop and only you can stop it. Please, pick up your phone and call as many Senators as you can because all of America needs your help. The sick, the old, the poor and the broken hearted need your help. The victims of Katrina need your help. The families of the fallen soldiers need your help. The people of the world, whose shining city on a hill used to be America, need your help. And finally, I need your help. Please call. A few calls cannot break the levee. But your call joined with millions of others can drown out even the Gigantic Spin Machines that feed our Spiral of Silence. Will you join me in calling our Senators? I beg you, Once more into the breach dear friends, our Good Senator has called us to action. Will you now ignore that conscience call?

Yesterday, our last true President called on all of us to , "Be not afraid." When he asked, "What are we going to do with the rest of Our lives?", I believe he was also asking, "What are we to do about the future of our country?" Are we going to stand silently in fear and let this dream die? No, we can't. We can not. We must not. Please call and start driving the demons out of Washington. Grab whatever faith you hold onto and call out for Peace.

Sincerely,
Michael Lewis
A Proud Citizen of the United States of America.

2. I have in Iowa
I have contacted Sen. Harkin about it. I think Grassley is a lost cause. He has become batsh*t crazy in his old age.

6. I know how you feel...
but truth be told, we all fucked this one up. When Meirs was nominated, the Right-wing went into over-drive immediately to berate her and remove her nomination without ever even hearing one single word from her. She was railroaded without ever given a chance to state her case. Now, I'm not mourning her but the lesson here is, we waited too long to voice our dissent. A few days before the vote is not long enough. Yes, our leadership should have led this charge and it was our mistake to sit around and wait for them to do so. We cannot make the same mistake again. If you're mad, take it out on the buttons on your phone. Try calling the Repukes first too, if you should accidentally blow up on a Repuke staffer, all the better I say, all the better.

18. Yes! It's the timing. And that IS our challenge.
To get ahead of the firestarters and to stay there.

I'll call.

Leahy or Jeffords, let alone Sanders, because I know where they stand on this- bitterly opposed. Do you think it would do any good to call DeWine or Graham?

17. Yes but it's also important to call all of them...
not just on the Committee. They all need to hear from us on this issue, every last one of them. Every Senator and every Congressperson needs to know that we are through taking this shit any longer. And call Leahy, Jeffords and Sanders too. For all those who oppose tyrrany, they need to be thanked. For all those who support it, they need to be frightened.

22. You should call them anyway...
and maybe get a few others to call as well. If they start feeling the heat while they watch the burn up of the Republican Party, maybe they'll start listening to their constituents.

23. I Told Them By E-Mail I Was Done With Them
Calling them wouldn't help

they don't care

their constituents are largely Republican and conservative Dem

the liberals like myself are far outnumbered

they are DLC'ers all the way

they don't represent me

I've written them for years

all I ever get back is bullshit answers

After Alito and the filibuster which they could have supported and didn't, I'm done with them.

The only thing I will do is support ANYONE that runs against them

No one answered at Schumer's office. I'll try again later.
