Oh... I made it onto a winger's blog!

Here I am:

Kerrytravelers (1000+ posts) Fri Sep-02-05 01:29 PMResponse to Original message 14.

I can understand how you feel. I was leaving a grocery store once. It was really quiet there with no one in the parking lot and no store workers outside at all. There was a person--- not in the handicapped area, not handicapped--- just struggling with their groceries. I started to help, then saw the W sticker. I put the bag down and said "I'm sorry. Republicans don't believe in helping people. Pull yourself up by your own bootstraps." Then I walked off. They were stunned. Amazing what happends when their policies are shown to them on such a simple, personal level.

And the bloger's response:

It seem's strange to me that a person who claims to be in the party of caring would think it's ok to not help a person because of their politic's. While the idiots over at that site never cease to amaze me I am becoming more amazed that I cannot tell the difference anymore between the Kos/DummiesU crowd and the mainstream left. They have become one and the same.

The above example show's the difference between the right and left. Do you see that kind of stuff on a conservative blog? Did not think so.

Oh, the irony of it all...

Edit to add this lovely little ditty:

1. That would have been in reply to one of my posts.
I ended up, at one point, having over 150 sites talking about my one thread! ALSO, that thread led to Rush talking about me and spreading lies on his program. You are in good company.

9. Nope, only me and he butchered my whole story.
Here is a link to how I found out about it:

http://liberalunderground.activeboard.com/index.spark?forumID=60876&action=viewTopic&commentID=4063199&subForumID=159321

If you kept on my original thread you know that I went back and stated a couple of different times that what happened was wrong. I did an even longer explanation over at the above link. Tons and tons of right wingers saw fit to use (and change) my story and yet maybe four different threads noted that I said what happened was wrong. I did karma penance for months after that just to make up for what happened and you should hear some of the things these people said about me - making assumptions I am human, special place in hell for me, an awful excuse for a human being, etc, etc.... If you read what Rush said you will hardly even recognize my story!

It is amazing what you find when you google your name. Welcome to infamy.

3. Of course you wouldn't,
because the conservatives would be far less likely to help someone in the first place, no matter what their politics are.

I searched for my username once and found a thread devoted to bashing me at some conservative site. It felt a little creepy at first, but I got used to it.

make it a "right v. left" issue, I agree with him/her that it's ridiculous for you to not help out a person because they have a Bush sticker on their car. That's hardly something to crow about.

13. I was hardly crowing about anything. I was pointing out the irony.
Edited on Wed Feb-08-06 08:03 PM by Kerrytravelers
However, being that the person was perfectly healthy and driving a nice car, I really don't feel too sorry for not helping them load groceries. But, if you'd reat the orginal post, you would have known that the OP was very sorry for not stopping. But nonetheless, it is a clear showing of how

Edited to add:
I never implied it was a nice thing to do, but sometimes I don't feel like being nice. And perhaps, just perhaps, the event will stick in the person's mind... oh, wait, bush followers... oh well, never mind.

15. The original thread was an awful one.
It exposed some of the worst and some of the best in a lot of us. Some posts (especially mine) may have sounded very callous. There were a lot of people that stood up and said those types of actions are not what we are about. I answered the very first reply in that very way.

I had worked hard at becoming a much better, much more spiritual person. My actions on that day really threw me and I had no one at home to talk to. I was stunned by how far I thought I had come and how my actions on that day contradicted what I thought I had learned.

Some people came forward and made similar confessions to mine. Some wanted to show we are all human and others had their own reasons for posting.

Whatever may have been said, in that thread, it did not warrant some of the right wing comments that followed. My story (according to them) changed from Greensboro to New Orleans. It changed from a child to a baby. It changed from a woman to an old black lady.

Because of my awful actions, and confession, other replies were held up as how awful our party is. My story was held up as how awful we all are. I am very sorry for my actions and goodness knows I paid my dues over that one action. I strongly believe in karma and every day for months I helped at least three strangers a day. Try doing nice things for three strangers a day for months on end. First you have to find someone and then find something nice you can do for them. It takes a lot of work. I even went against my rule about helping makes who are stranded and I offered a jump to one male who was stranded in a grocery store parking lot.

I do not mind people judging me but I hate how people's perceptions of our party changed because of my feeling lost and coming here to try an figure out what happened to me.

I do not believe anyone crowed about what they did any more than I was accused of boasting about what I did. I never boasted about it, not once. I even gave Rush the benefit of the doubt and sent him a link to my story along with quotes about how bad I felt. I asked him to retract but he did not.

I think the bigger story here is how we have the links and proof to show how the right can take any story and twist it so you can not even recognize it any more. It is one thing when it is someone else like John Kerry and it does not truly personally effect you. It becomes something else when someone with a big radio program twists your story until in is unrecognizable and holds you up to his audience as how hateful the left is.

It all hurts that much more when a friend condemns you for what you did and defends Rush saying that they always make a story 'colorful' in the radio business!

16. Thank you. Well said.
Because DU is a public forum, wingers come here all the time, take snippits of posts and turn them into something else entirely, as in your case. I found the irony amusing that we are considered awful because we didn't jump to the aid of a winger, yet the wingers themselves could care less to come to the aid of the porr in this county, to the children who can not help whatever "evils" the wingers feel the kids parents are committing. The wingers could care less about all those we are killing in Iraq and around the world, either with our "smart bombs" or with our policies.

I"m sure you've paid your pentance. Your karma is fine. It is the wingers who should be worried.

18. You are welcome and thank you for your kind words.
I am not sure if you read my posts over at Liberal Underground but I actually told them how the broken down mini-van was across the street from three gas stations and if she had yelled loud enough she could have gotten help without even leaving where she was. I explained this to Rush and said I would be willing to take a lie detector to prove it to him. Why did I think he would be interested in clarifying my story? I told him I felt badly (even though help was right there) because that is who I am.

I did not expect this from the right. Perhaps the talk show hosts but not from the people themselves. I will not lower my expectations for these people. We are all humans and I must believe, with all my heart, that these folks would not have said what they did if they had known the truth. I just can believe anything except that they have been led astray. If I were to think they were just terrible human beings then that would be too much for my heart to handle about that many people.

That is one of my biggest fears is that the truth will come out that we invaded Iraq just for their oil or we will invade Iran to protect our dollar and everyone will be so greedy they will not care as long as we get what we need. Our bodies are all made the same way and I just have to hope that somewhere along the way our minds will connect and we will rise up as one. I have to think any selfishness displayed is brought out by fears that have been preyed upon. They have been brainwashed and told so many lies.

Yes, I have done my penance for what I did. I worked very hard to make up for that wrong. I now need to build up credits and just hope I never have to use them. Thank you for your kind words. We are in this together.

We all do and say things we later regret but were too passionate in the moment to rationally think about at the time. You aren't a bad person AT ALL!!!!!!!

11. This is just too much of a coincidence!
I was arguing online with a ditto-head a week or so back. It was on a board that my wife frequents often. A board that isn't meant for politics, but they occasionally butt heads on some issues. Anyway, my wife was always telling me that I had to match wits with this guy on there because he was such a * lover. So anyway, we had a go-around and I wasn't at all impressed with his arguing ability. Actually, his arguing ability consisted of constantly telling me that I had my panties in a bunch. He never really tried to defend his position on anything.

But now to the coincidence. He did a search on my name and found ONE of my posts on DU, and it was to the exact same thread as you talked about here. I guess I commented that I understand how someone could despise someone with a Bush bumper sticker, and he tried to use that against me - telling me how "hateful" I was. So I make a few hundred posts here on DU, and THAT one comes back against me.

12. Well, given how the current admin. has told us they are "compassionate", &
then do things that are very discompassionate, the blogger is just wrong.

Had Bush been true to his word, things would be very different.
