I couldn't answer when asked what the Democratic positive message was.
They asked me to do it without saying what Bush has done wrong. When put on the spot like that, my mind just went blank. I'm so ashamed:-(

What is the positive message/positive slogan, so I won't make that mistake again?

1. Here is what Dean said on the Today Show when asked to
to describe what the Dem Party stands for in 30 seconds. It seems pretty good to me.
http://hotlineblog.nationaljournal.com/archives/2006/01/dean_on_today_s.html

"One: American jobs that will stay in America, using energy independence to generate those jobs. Two: a strong national defense based on telling the truth to our citizens, our soldiers and our allies. Three: Honesty and integrity to be restored to government. Four: A health care system that works for everybody just like they have in 36 other countries. Five: a strong public education system so we can optimism and opportunity back in America."

15. Yep - It is the "elevator speech" - most people have the attention span
that is as long as a trip up to their floor at work in an elevator. Boiling down to that length and having everyone echoing the same message means that it might just break through the corporate media whitenoise.

I am impressed!

25. I would just add: and be able to retire in dignity
I also would love to say that government can do good, if we know that it is doing good for all the people, not just the donors..

Ever since Clinton said, in his SOTU that the days of big government are over, we are afraid to say that government programs are good, benefit all the citizens.

2. We Can Do Better?
just kidding

I think it is that we need a change of course so that we can pay down our debt, we shouldn't be leaving that for our kids.

We can fight terror without pre-emptive war on countries that didn't attack us in the first place.

We can create a system that is CHEAPER than our health care insurance system now, that will cover EVERYONE!

We can restore our image in the world with our allies!

We can take care of our citizens instead of letting Americans starve or be homeless!

We can change so much! WE ARE the land of abundance compared with the rest of the world!

We can create jobs, and stop the bleeding of jobs from our shores!

3. I like "put the American people first"
it's a version of Clinton's "putting people first" theme.

*We want to create American jobs (e.g., no tax breaks for outsourcing, a strong economy, help small business, crack down on corporate malfeasance)
*We want to safeguard our health and our future (health care, social security, education)
*We want to protect American people at home (e.g., bring home our National Guard, especially, no unneccessary wars)
*We want to protect our civil liberties and civil rights

5. We don't need a slogan...
We are for helping the poor and feeding the hungry. We are for peaceful relations with our neighbors and integrity in our government. We are for human rights for all humans and that includes human dignity. We support social programs that alleviate suffering and we demand an education for our children. We believe the elderly should be cared for and the victims avenged. We believe you never fight unless you have to and then you fight to remove the threat, never for revenge. We believe it's your right to believe, say and think anything you wish but it is not your right to harm others with slander and lies. We believe in America and the defining priciples by which we were founded. We are the Democratic Party and we are made up of liberals, conservatives and progressives. We might not be polished but we are right. I'm not sure you can condense that into a slogan so don't worry that you couldn't boil down honor and duty into a sound-bite. There's no shame in not playing their ignorant game.

11. We need a statement that is easy to remember and repeat -
I don't like the term slogan, but we have to recognize that there are 1,000's of jobs that need to be done and that we must sort them and prioritize them.

How about *MISSION STATEMENT* -- we need a Mission Statement...

...and I love Dean's 5 statements above.

It's an important tool in a winning strategery. Why do you think there ARE slogans?

Make it simple. Make it easy. Make it good.

10. Freedom
Essentially -- the liberal Democratic message -- is that being and American means to believe in the concept of freedom, in a true democracy, in which liberty means to be able to express your opinion no matter how much in offends the majority -- and to be friendly and tolerant to all and to those that are in the minority, in and environment where the people allow one another life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

I am working on educating people. Two of my friends are Repubs but they really don't know why. I am educating them. It's difficult.

if people on the other side are so worried of terorrist attacks, point out that the HS could not even respond to Katrina and still has not, and whether they think the HS will be there to really protect and act.
(The FEMA operated very well under Dems)

A gov't that takes it's responsibility serious and does not outsource agency duties to private companies and thus evades responsibility, while in the process fanning cronism and lining the pockets of family and associates.

18. how about : "REAL Freedom begins at home"...
Freedom from oppression, fear, want, unjust laws, homelessness, unwarrented surveilance, unemployment, lack of health care, intolerance, and imperialism.

If we spent our funds, energy, talents, intelligence and GOOD energy on making our own 'homeland' a place of dignity and promise, then we would not be a 'threat' to others- and the threats that exist with-in our own borders, from our 'own' people would lessen, because people who feel hopless do things that they would not feel compelled to do when their basic needs are being met. Americans aren't 'happy' or 'contented' and we haven't been for a LONG time- We lust after 'things' and 'excitement' and 'the next best whatever' we rush around busy, busy, busy and complain we don't have time to do anything, but what we really are really doing is trying to avoid having to really slow down and ... think.... reflect.... question our lives....

At least that is my 'take' on it- after many years of being in the spinning wheel in the cage... and faling flat on my face. Now, my life here has an unmistakable 'finite' end-point, premature according to 'statistics' but not surprising. Seeing the 'sunset' on the horizon, can really change ones perspective- And before the dusk sets in, I'd like to encourage people not to forget life isn't a destination, it is a journey- If we focus so much on 'staying safe' and 'wanting more' and 'planning for the future' finding out that the future is far closer than anyone could ever have predicted, makes each and every day a day that shouldn't be wasted- And who knows when any of our 'futures' might arrive- We gotta live each day, like its our last- cause it may be- and if it isn't, we are the 'winners' either way- eh?

sorry for the monologue-

Peace, and justice can't be brought to others, if we don't posses it ourselves. Guess that is the most important thing. We have sold out our 'values' for the lie that we 'have-to' in order to make 'America' safe-

What price are we willing to pay for the illusion of safety????- How much 'stuff' is ever going to be 'enough'.

i'll shut up now- promise.

Let me go to DNC.org and see if I can find Harry Reid's agenda. It's been around a while, but people keep pretending they've never seen it and saying "Dems have no plan." We sure do.

Sometimes I find myself going to bed pissed off and full of negative thoughts. I came to the conclusion , when that happens , its time to lay off the politics for a while. I can actually get more done when Im in a positive state so the negativity is not only hard on ones mental and physical health but it also affects productivity.
