Can you demand a change if your PO is playing Fox News?
I'm listening to Bob Kinkade, and there's a caller that's saying "You can't go to a PO, SS office, or any Gov't building that has a TV that isn't running Fox news! He's calling from Fla!

I haven't had the experience, but I must say, if I did, I would certainly go to the counter and ask that the chanel be changed or turned off!

1. Our PO used to show CNN
but now only does infomercials on the Postal Service. Never saw the set on Faux News.

3. Post offices have TVs? I'd no idea. I'd have them turn it off completely

It's a US Gov't facility and must be non-partisan I would think.

5. The post offices here in AZ are hawking AOL accounts!
I kid you not! On the counters are stacks of those freebie AOL account disks in their little display containers. When I asked a postal worker about that, she said, "Oh, it's not up to us because it's all being privatized now." Huh?

Haven't seen any TV sets but I find AOL to be offensive enough.

6. There is only one response to any public TV that is playing POX
http://www.tv-b-gone.com/

If enough of us get out there and just shut the damned things OFF, maybe somebody will start catching a clue once in a while.

In the meantime, the post office near me on the east coast of Florida didn't have a TV at all. However, one shop I went into had Pox on a set. I turned around and walked out.

11. Soooo, did you ask them to change the chanel or turn it off?
I realize you don't want to piss off your PT, but you also shouldn't have to listen or watch something you don't want to hear or see!

22. Yes. It became quite a bone of contention.
I don't think I'll be going back there if I can find another physical therapist.

9. A bigger issue: Why does TV have to be on EVERYWHERE these days?
Jesus, it reminds me of the telescreen in George Orwell's 1984. I want to get one of those universal remote keychains that turns off TVs so I can have peace and quiet wherever I go. First the stupid physical therapist's office had Faux News playing every time I went there. Now Wells Fargo seems to think it's important to have CNN playing in the background.

Screw that. How about some peace and quiet???

Just. Turn. The. Damn. Things. Off. :grr:

14. Haha...this made me laugh..I had jury duty last month. Fox was on
this great big flat screen tv in the waiting room. About 150 of us were there. I couldn't stand watching it, but all the chairs were set up in rows facing the screen. I felt like I was being brain washed. After they told us we all had to stay until they pick enough people for the jury, and we may not be released until after 5:00, I walked out to the clerk and said, can you change the channel. She said, not really we just have a news channel because we can't please everyone. I said fine, then turn it to CNN, I shouldn't have to be subjected to RW news if I'm going to be cooped up here all day. She gave me a look that could have killed, but being the good public servant that she was she said nothing, got out from behind the counter and changed the channel to CNN. One small victory.

:bounce: :woohoo:

19. No way would that happen when called for jury duty in my city.
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 01:26 AM by CottonBear
There is NO reading material allowed even while waiting for the judge to come in and begin the jury chosing process.

I was reading our local alterantive weekly (before our judge - THE eldest and longest serving superior court judge in our community)
and a bailiff leaned over and poked me with a billy stick and told me to put away the paper, I did so immediately.

Our courts don't take no shit from no one here in Athens, GA. They are super strict on procedure but are also mostly very fair and they go by the law at every step. I've served on a Grand Jury here but I've never been selected for traverse jury duty. I always get de-selected by either the prosecutor or the defense lawyer. Mr. CB served on atrverse jury recently.

Even while waiting to be called into the jury rom or courtroom you can't have reading material much less access to Tv, cell phones, alndlines or other people. We ave at leat two bailiffs and a sheriff's deputy watching us at all times.

17. Why ask them to turn it off? At my post office one clerk sometimes
plays dirtbaugh on the radio. I always make fun of him and ask something like, When is the drug addict going to jail? Did you know he was gay? Or say, You know while bush's state of the union speach was lousy in content Bush read it real well, looks like they have gotten him off the drugs and booze. Ridicule is the best weapon.

18. My post office was playing Rush on the radio.
There were a half-dozen or so people in line, so I was forced to listen to the windbag. When I got up to the counter, I complained to the clerk. Then when I got home, I emailed the post office site and complained. The following week I got an email from the post office saying the branch manager would be contacting me. Sure enough, a couple of days later I had a voice message from the manager saying he was sorry I was offended and that the station had now been switched. The funny part is that both the clerk and the manager said the radio station had played music previously, but it had recently switched to talk radio and no one had noticed!

20. The bank yesterday ...
.. i go to BankOfAmerica, and every time I get there they have Faux running behind the teller stations. There's a typical Southern mid-manager type running the branch, and I'm betting it's his idea. I think the virus is becoming more prominent than the organism. Geez.

if they have Fox on, while I'm in there. they always say no problem...and usually its switched to CNN which is just as bad, but Fox dictates that kind of right-wing slanted "news" that the others follow.
