What the Democratic Party Stands For - Howard Dean's Answer in 30 secs:
One: American jobs that will stay in America, using energy independence to generate those jobs.
Two: A strong national defense based on telling the truth to our citizens, our soldiers and our allies.
Three: Honesty and integrity to be restored to government.
Four: A health care system that works for everybody just like they have in 36 other countries.
Five: A strong public education system so we can bring optimism and opportunity back to America."

This is just so damn good I think we all ought to memorize it and teach it to every Dem running for any office in the nation!

I don't like slogans. We do need a clear mission statement to be repeated by candidate after candidate: To break through the Rethug noise machine that is the corporate media; to get people's attention; and to make a lie of the GOP talking point "Dems don't have any plans".

:kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick: :kick:

Dean on Today Show, 1/26/06

Anxious people will follow clear, confident leaders. (And we need 70% turnout and intense interest in the November elections to have a chance to overcome the GOP control over the voting machines and voter rolls and...).

3. Did Howard send this to EVERY Dem in the House and Senate?
All of them MUST memorize it and respond with those points every time some MSM idiot asks "So wha t do the Dens stand for????"

I hear it all the time, and the only one able to answer the damn question is Howard! I love him dearly, but that's just a damn sad statement to have to make about the hundreds who are already elected, huh?

6. It is a sad statement, and then again, delivering just such a message is
his job - and why he is the *perfect* man for the job right now! I think a huge, huge part of the issue about the Dems message not getting out is the fact that the corporate media has been well trained to ignore and dismiss Dem statements while acting as an echo chamber for GOP statements. That makes a big, big difference. The GOP has shit for plans - destroy social security, stop student loans and survivor benefits so everyone between 16 & 30 will volunteer to go to war, ad nauseum - and yet the echo chamber that is the corporate press somehow spins the shit into "Leadership".

The Dems need our help to catapult the truth into the minds of the people...

I also think something about freedom of speech/basic civil rights is important, too. But the overall list has to be concise!

I hope from now forward the messaging will be that accurate and that terse.

The only thing I would add is -- We're following Murtha's plan to end, totally, our occupation of Iraq.

Peace.

11. I like that: Totally end occupation of Iraq -- and,
I think Howard worked it in by saying "A strong national defense based on telling the truth to our citizens, our soldiers and our allies."

Also, keep in mind that this is 30-second version. A 60-second version can follow and possibilities for expansion by individual candidates is endless.

13. That steals my thunder....
But that's OK! Sounds like he's already there.

I was going to write Dean with my suggestion for an overall Dem slogan for 2006. which is:

"The Democratic Party: We want your job to stay here."

As a blue-collar worker, I can assure you that thoughts of who is toughest-sounding on "terror" melt away like snow in April when the American mind is focused on job worries.

We're scared about where we (or at least our children) are going to get money for food in the future as we continue to hollow out our entire economy!

Everyone is in on this one and it's an issue the Republicans simply cannot broach. We all know now that re-training won't save us. Not now as we watch those jobs we re-trained for disappear, too!

Terror-Schmerror! Where are we going to get MONEY in the future???????

18. I like it a lot!
Now it needs an average American short attention span type package...

How about this

The Democrats stand for

American jobs that will stay in America, using energy independence to generate those jobs.
Miltary and a strong national defense based on telling the truth to our citizens, our soldiers and our allies.
Education second to none, a strong public education system so we can bring optimism and opportunity back to America.
Restoring Honesty and Integrity to Government.
Innocent until proven Guilty
Corporate Welfare reform that shifts tax burdens onto an ever shrinking Middle Class
A health care system that works for everybody just like they have in 36 other countries

I'm sure someone can do a better version but the end result is the messae becomes Democrats Stand for AMERICA.

We've got at least 100 million Americans who've been pigging out on the political equivalent of junk food. You can't expect them to develop a taste for caviar overnight.

32. a good start, but not nearly enough . . .
we need something far more comprehensive, such as . . .

Democratic Pledge to America
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=364&topic_id=355682&mesg_id=355682

we also need statements on some of the issues that are most important, and that Americans care most about, i.e. . .

- re-opening the 9/11 investigation
- investigating election fraud, and preventing it in the future
- ensuring privacy rights
- re-regulating corporations, and
- progressive taxation . . .

He cannot directly say to "re-regulating corporations". That's when the begining of the end when he talked about re-regulating the media.

37. And along with strategy,
we need to counter that short talking-point, 'Democrats don't have a plan'. We need to use those one-lined zingers.

Republicans: All talk, no action

Republicans: Great at bashing, failures at government

Republicans are burning a hole in America's pockets.

I used Arial font, 8 point. I bolded the heading and added www.democrats.org at the bottom along with 2 donkeys. It all fit nicely.

Now, I am going to buy some business card stock from Office Depot and start leaving these everywhere and handing them out to everyone I meet. :)
