Would you feel your privacy had been invaded if airport security...?
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 09:35 PM by kentuck
...had a machine that could look thru all your clothes and see every bit of your body? It's called a millimenter-wave device. I saw it mentioned on C-SPAN this morning when they were interviewing the electronic surveillance guy. Of course, Homeland Security is so well-trained that they would not have any Bubbas back in the office saying, "Wow, look at those knockers...let's take a closer look!" No. That would never happen. And who's to say they only have to use these machines at airports. Would you have any problem with this type of invasion upon your privacy? Of course, if you're one of those Republicans that say you have nothing to hide, I guess it doesn't matter?

3. It's been around for a while.

You've probably heard us talk about "personal security" firm Qinetiq before, but their latest mad scientist invention may yet prove to be their greatest. They're calling the technology Millimeter Wave, and scanners based on the device can "see" through walls and clothes, something that the pervs and homeland security officials will love alike. Apparently they are also working on a "hyperspectral sensor" which picks up stress pheromones in the air—the perfect weapon in an airport against the very rare and elusive harried business traveler variety of terrorist.

4. I'll Go Along If I Can Use The Same Technology
In other words, these pricks want to look at my pubes? Well then, I want to look at their's. What's the problem? They shouldn't have any problem as long as they don't have anything to hide.

6. Current airport security is a subjective fucking joke anyway....
I got pulled out of line at 2 different airports on the same trip. Both times it was by some 5'3" rent a cop who got off on "exercizing his authoritah" by singling out the tallest guy in the line. And I certainly don't resemble any stereotype of a "terraist". Though I can't remember how long my hair was at the time, so I might have resembled a Chimp hating war protestor. Which I am, of course.

8. Heh me too
I have no problems flying out of or into NYC airports, but damned if I don't always get searched when I'm in a red state. They single me right out. People I'm with go right through, but I get detained and searched. It's like they pick up the vibe - ding ding ding - this one is anti-chimp, let's get her!

7. You know they watch you in the dressing room, don't you?
Many department store fitting rooms have surveillance cameras installed and very often you are being watched by someone of the opposite sex. Nice, huh? It's all to keep you honest :eyes:

Republicans who support suspending their own civil liberties for security should be happy to let rent-a-cops look through their clothing.

11. Yes, but there is a way around that.
Just buy the clothes, try them on at home and return what doesn't fit and what you don't like. This of course only works at stores with generous return rules.

25-30 years? I remember we use to have a store here, Stuarts? maybe?...anyway, they had NO DOORS in their changing room. That's when I stopped going into dressing rooms.:(

10. Yeah, but I'll bet if you called them on it and just took your
clothes off so there wasn't any doubt you weren't carrying a weapon, they would arrest you for indecent exposure. Just can't win, can you?

I think that a computer should be able to scan you and determine if there is something that needs a human eye with this sophisticated equipment that should be possible.

15. Hell, I've all but seen that now without the machine....
Edited on Mon Jan-02-06 10:47 PM by hlthe2b
I hate hate hate to fly now. It doesn't take too many times observing a horrendously violated tearful, embarrassed grandmother type, ordered to "hold those things up so we can get under there!" (breasts) as they wand over her obvious rolls of fat under her too tight under-clothing, while the husband seethes with the look of one seeing his beloved wife all but raped before his eyes but powerless to intervene.....

And, not missed by this observer, the snickering Airport Security workers (both male and females) off to the side.

....Or the poor old man who is told he can't take his car lock "clicker" and nor will they let him retrieve it on return from some holding area despite his sobs-- the man convinced he could not get back into his car nor return home as a result.

I've seen this kind of thing far too many times. Airport security is a joke. It has all too often become a landing ground for those who couldn't cut the requirements for "real" law enforcement to get their kicks in ordering around old people, and others they can boss around and humiliate at will-- in essence the stereotypical Bush* voter.
