Can you say Psyop? "Muhammad Cartoon" proved fake
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 01:23 AM by MakeItSo
'Muhammad cartoon' proved fake
Imam added 3 especially provocative images to fuel outrage

One of three especially inflammatory but undocumented Muhammad images distributed by a Danish imam as an example of an "anti-Muslim environment" in the European country turns out to be a poorly reproduced copy of an Associated Press photo taken at a French pig-squealing contest.

The weblog NeanderNews pointed out the image used by Imam Ahmad Abu Laban was a faxed copy of AP's Aug. 15 photo of Jacques Barrot competing at the annual French Pig-Squealing Championships in Trie-sur-Baise.

Isn't it amazing how the "Imam" choreographed his distribution of these fake cartoons throughout the Arab world (independent of the Danish paper) to match PERFECTLY with the beat of the Neocon's war drums!

It was his RECENT distribution of these fake cartoons --- not the publications of other cartoons in Denmark months ago -- that incited the riots.

1. Interesting
But I wonder why they used such a crude fake. Even a fourth rate cartoonist with a blunt crayon could have done the assignment to create an offensive stereotype.

4. Here's more
The spokesman for the Islamic Society of Denmark, Ahmed Akkari, claimed he does not know the origin of the three pictures. He said they had been sent anonymously to Danish Muslims. However, when a reporter asked if it could talk to these Muslims, the spokesman refused to reveal their identity.

Abu Laban, who had previously been unwelcome in several Arab states, toured Egypt with fellow Islamic Society of Denmark representatives and spoke with representatives of the Arab League, Egypt's grand mufti and other high-level officials.

2. I'm totally convinced that there are RW Islamic clerics who are
inciting this to help maintain the extremist environment. Moderates on both sides get marginalized, the radicals maintai/increase their power at the expense of the world. I wish the masses on both sides would use more critical thinking skills to see through this.

7. You got it!
Keep the moderates shut out of the press, and the debate, rally the troops around the flag. The Danish flag, (oh and burn it)

8. "Muslim extemists" have cooperated with British Intelligence in past
"In new revelations, Bisher al-Rawi, a British resident held at the American prison in Cuba, says that MI5 persuaded him to become their unpaid intermediary with the alleged al-Qa'ida leader by promising they would help him if he ran into trouble...

In the letter, seen by The Independent on Sunday, Mr al-Rawi alleges that:

* He was recruited by MI5 weeks after 11 September as a neutral intermediary with Abu Qatada, who allegedly had links with MI5 despite being accused of being al-Qa'ida's 'spiritual leader' and Osama bin Laden's 'ambassador' in Europe.

* MI5 always knew where Abu Qatada was hiding after he fled his home in west London hours before new powers to detain suspects without charge came into force in December 2001. He lived at Elephant & Castle, close to MI5's headquarters, for nine months before being arrested.

* Throughout this time, Mr al-Rawi had 'numerous' meetings with three MI5 agents - 'Alex', 'Matthew' and 'Martin' - in hotels and bars in London, passingmessages between them and Abu Qatada.

* After Mr al-Rawi expressed anxieties his safety was at risk from his contacts with MI5, a service lawyer "assured" him that it would "aid him in his defence would appear as witnesses on his behalf".

12. Very interesting. Thanks for the link.
The long history of MI6 and MI5 and the CIA manipulating Islamic extremists as assets
is overlooked far too often.

It is weird what's been popping up on WND recently. But the photo in question also appeared on a network website some months ago ...

I automatically assume that all sources are biased, btw

18. I'm not
My point is that all the sites talking about this are right wing. World Net Daily in particular I believe to be nothing but a scandalsheet, and has no credibility.

I'm thinking right now this might be a rightwing meme they're throwing out, just to mess with the situation. For example, if they claim that the Danish imam is trying to incite muslims to riot, then they may be trying to once again make the case that muslim=evil. That makes it all the more easy to expand our Holy Mission In The Middle East.

I want to see more on this before I make up my mind. There's been way too many cases of the Republican Noise Machine literally making up "facts" out of whole cloth as they go along.

23. WND is taking the opportunity to "color in" the Immam
If the Immam is an asset of western intelligence psyops (as I'm starting to suspect), he needs a personality to go with it. WND is helping out with that. It's interesting to note that they also spread the Super Bowl "nuke threat" story, which seemed like low-rent psyops as well (you know, the fear of terra and all).

But it seems clear based on multiple reports that the cartoons he distributed were fake.

16. Here's a report from an authoritative source: the AP
http://www.editorandpublisher.com/eandp/news/article_display.jsp?vnu_content_id=1001994024

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) The Associated Press protested Wednesday the misleading inclusion of an AP photograph in a pamphlet purporting to show images offensive to Islam.

The picture shows a bearded man wearing fake pig ears, a pig nose, and a pink embroidered cap on his head. He was wearing the costume while participating in a pig-squealing contest at an annual festival in a farm village in southern France last summer.

The AP sent out the photo describing the pig-squealing contest on Aug. 14, 2005. The photo had no connection with Islam or the caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad published in a Danish newspaper in September.

She wouldn't need to be in a pig squealing contest.

Isn't she still in charge of putting lipstick on US policy in the ME?
