1. Check this link
www.legitgov.org/flu_oddities.html
has pages of recent articles, reports not in msm..
I'm concerned about:
the 2 confirmed deaths in Iraq, potentially 5-12 more.
tamiflu is ineffective, and
rummy,'the claw', has financial stake in tamiflu.

4. Rumsfeld's growing stake in Tamiflu (between $5 + $25m in stock)
Rumsfeld's growing stake in Tamiflu --Defense Secretary, ex-chairman of flu treatment rights holder, sees portfolio value growing.
October 31, 2005: 10:55 AM EST

NEW YORK (Fortune) - The prospect of a bird flu outbreak may be panicking people around the globe, but it's proving to be very good news for Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and other politically connected investors in Gilead Sciences, the California biotech company that owns the rights to Tamiflu, the influenza remedy that's now the most-sought after drug in the world.

Rumsfeld served as Gilead (Research)'s chairman from 1997 until he joined the Bush administration in 2001, and he still holds a Gilead stake valued at between $5 million and $25 million, according to federal financial disclosures filed by Rumsfeld.

8. BTW, Tamilu doesn't even work for avian flu. See:
WHO sends Tamiflu to Iraq after bird flu confirmed 03 Feb 2006 The World Health Organisation (WHO) said on Friday that it was sending several thousand courses of influenza drug Tamiflu to Iraq to help 'treat' any further cases of deadly bird flu in humans.

Tamiflu found ineffective in bird flu treatment 21 Dec 2005 The drug most of the world is counting on to prevent an avian flu pandemic may not be a failsafe defence, according to a New England Journal of Medicine report. The authors say they have found evidence the H5N1 virus can mutate into a form unaffected by Tamiflu -- rendering the world's ever-growing stockpiles of the drug ineffective if the mutated strain were to spread.

3. Wouldn't a pandemic also be a national security issue?
Makes sense to me...

6. From the people who brought you FEMA and Mike Brown....
Well, Halliburton managed to receive $500mln after the New Orleans levies were blown, and KBR just received $385mln to build detention centers to be used in the event of a 'national emergency,' so I would say all bets are off, unless you're a Halliburton (KBR to spin off from Halliburton) shareholder.

7. If Katrina Survivors had been exposed
to something contagious, it would be Coast-to-Coast. My congressman happens to be an md, I've written about those awful evacuations, tearing Families apart, sending People to nearly every state in the Union. If for NO other reason, than public health, they needed to keep Families together. I assume the guvment will over-react, next time. And no, I haven't heard from my elected employee on these concerns.

9. Not disputing that, but a pandemic WOULD be a valid national security
concern.

10. Well,
Both Northrop Grumman and MITRE are very active in the planning / IT side /infrastructure areas of bioterrorism preparedness. There's a lot of overlap between the aftermath of a bioterror attack and the aftermath of bird flu. You appear to be confused by the fact that Northrop Grumman works with the CDC. I suggest you research this more before flying off the handle.

11. Yes, I really trust the Bush regime, N. Grum. and MITRE with...
bioterrorism 'preparedness.'

They are the ones 'getting the party started' so that the Bush dictatorship can invoke a full-blown police state.

12. And on and on and on...
No, of course I don't trust them. Neither do I believe that MITRE attending a conference on bird flu means that we're heading towards a police state.

13. Really? New Fair works w. Halliburton, as well... you know, the...
company whose subsidiary (KBR) is building detention centers to be used in the event of a 'national emergency.' And still, you see *no* correlation?

14. Shouldn't this be in the 9/11 Forum?
...that's where all of the other silly conspiracy theories go...

A question: How would the government NOT preparing for a pandemic help? THESE are the agencies/corporations that would be involved if a pandemic were to occur. Whay should they NOT be at the summit?
