Why haven't we seen real terrorism in the US or Europe?
If I were a terrorist and truly wanted to instill a sense of fear in people, I'd be setting off car bombs, backpack suicide bombs, etc all over the place - relatively cheap and easy to pull off. You know, the kind of stuff that Israel has faced for the past few decades. I was wondering why we haven't seen those similiar types of attacks here in this country and in Europe.

Hell, maybe it's just me who thinks this whole terror threat is being greatly exaggerated :sarcasm:

1. The threat IS being exaggerated.
However, you seem to be forgetting the train bombings in Spain and the tube bombings in London.

4. That's a lie!

I was recently at the Mall of America and there were as many cops as there are dust mites breeding in my bed! :wow:

Nobody went boom-boom there, that night... Except for any number of infants, of course... but that's what the bathroom is for.

Of course, the MOA is far more worthy of protection than any number of power plants or such things. :eyes:

6. You're not seeing the Israel type terror here because the
fundimental "hate" between two cultures doesn't exist here.

The threat to the US IS being exaggerated to keep the electorate in line! "Be scared, and keep electing US to keep you safe!"

8. Supposedly "they hate us for our freedoms"
And supposedly they hate us bad enough that they brought us 9-11.

I agree with the OP that the lack of terror attacks doesn't make sense.

13. Exactly - it wouldn't be that hard to pull off a real terror campaign
Small-scale terrorist attacks throughout the country on an ongoing basis would do far more to create fear & panic than 1 major attack every several years. Honestly I was expecting to see this begin happening in the aftermath of 9-11. When such attacks failed to materialize, one has to wonder why.

hit. I do think that the head of the monster has been, if not completely cut off, at least well-removed and the central organization has been disrupted. Now, that's kind of the party line. Is it true? Dunno

Or.. I am open to the concept that this one had some American underhanded participation. I'm not sure; nobody is. But there are enough questions to make me go hmmm.

But I too am surprised we have not had more suicide bombers over here.

10. this is very true.... and for several reasons
1) compared to what the diverse resistances in Europe (WWII), the IRA etc... could accomplish even in a heavily military guarded society, the few bombings that have happened are relatively amateurish (specially the one in London)...

2) the terrorists don't have a base in society, even in the immigrant population that could for religious or social reasons support them

3) police work is quite efficient in Europe. Culprits are arresred or killed.

For the US part I haven't seen any terrorism except 9/11 and the anthrax scare.

12. Heard one repub say al Qaeda only does big stuff, so there was
no need to worry about small places like ports, malls, etc.
