2. You know, I don't jump on this bandwagon.
I do see border security as a problem. I've said it before, I have no problem with people coming in through legal channels. I've been married to two different immigrants, both came legally. Both had sponsors and proper visas, which they respectected. I've lived overseas and I observed the immigration laws of that nation. This is a problem which cries for a solution and assuming that someone who identifies it as such is racist or bigoted is a cop out. There is much blame to spread around.

9. said it before and i'll say it again...
when people start bitchin' about illegal employers rather than illegal immigrants...

and start demanding that those illegal employers are fined into bankruptcy and thrown in prison...

and start deriding illegal employers for destroying "our" economy...

and start "looking down on" anybody that has an illegal employer as a neighbor...

well, then, and only then, will i decide that i really have anything to discuss with those that are all up-in-arms about the "illegal" problem. cause until then, i think that the only people talkin' about it are bigots.

The workers are one of US...The employers are one of THEM, exploiting the POWERLESS for personal gain, and yet all we bitch about is the guy trying to keep his family from starving.

12. The blame I referred to in my post extends to
employers who exploit workers. Pardon my laziness at that moment for not explaining my point fully. Laws against employers need to be enforced. Pressure needs to be put on some of these countries to improve their treatment of their laborers. We need to drop this free trade crap and adopt fair trade as a practice. Cheap goods do not contribute to an environment in which workers are treated with respect and fairness. Congress and the administration need to be excoriated for their role in this debacle--you know, the one where they talk tough but wink at the practices of the businesses who contribute to their campaign warchests. Vote the idiots out. Lastly, the person who comes here knowing that they break the law has a responsibility also. If you sneak across the boarder under cover of darkness, skulk around in the shadows to avoid detection, purchase fraudulent documents, use aliases, or engage in any other such activity, you know you are breaking the law. Enforce the law there too. I don't believe that rule of law works for some and not for others. Lots of people are breaking many laws in this debacle and all need to be held accountable.

14. the biggest crime illegal aliens are committing...
is trying to survive.

god help us if we are ever in the same situation, right? 'cause god knows, we'd have to sit there and starve rather than break a law!

15. I don't buy that one either.
I've lived in extreme poverty for an extended period of time, as have others I've known. Because you are impoverished it does not follow that it is okay to break laws.

8. I think he is alluding our border guard being threatened by humvees
with mounted 50 calibur machine guns.

The films of them are inconcusive as to whether these are drug lords private armies impersonating Mexican troops or if in fact they are Mexican troops working with the drug lords to facilitate drug smuggling.

Investigations regarding incursions by possible Mexican troops armed with 50 calibur machine guns on their humvees starts 3/1/06 I believe.

As a side note: money sent to mexico by illegals here amounts to over 16 billion each year and is mexico's second biggest source of funds, behind oil receipts.

He's not an expert in anything but racism. Their credibility sure is falling in my opinion. Interesting they didn't cover the demonstration against Bush this past weekend but have this guy on???

11. Minutement protest in Washington
"Guest worker" proposal targeted
“Minutemen” and Rep. Tom Tancredo rally in the nation's capital against the immigration program.

Liz Clark, a protester holds a placard as she listens to leaders from the Minutemen group speak in front of the Capitol in Washington Wednesday. About 50 demonstrators attended the rally which was held to protest illegal immigration into the United States.

Washington - As the Senate prepares to take up immigration legislation, members of a citizen border-watch group rallied outside the Capitol on Wednesday, pledging to torpedo any bill granting legal status to undocumented workers.

"If the president of the United States really wanted to, he could secure the border tomorrow," Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo., one of several speakers, told the Minuteman Project rally to loud cheers. "...The unfortunate, dirty truth of the matter is, he has no desire to do so."

Shouting "Stop the invasion," a few dozen protesters from as far away as California said they would work to force out of office anyone who voted for a "guest worker" program for foreigners.

Counterprotesters shouted such slogans as "Right-wing bigots, go away" and carried signs reading "Change your name, you're still the KKK."

17. Boy, he has faith in the president
"If he wanted to, he could secure the border tomorrow?" The man takes 10-15 minutes to react to terrorist attacks. Three days to do anything about a city-destroying natural disaster. Etc.

13. The Arizona caller ticked me off badly
He claimed that Gov. Napolitano fought Prop. 200 because she was pandering to some mythical base of illegal immigrant voters. Dumbass! Prop. 200 actually made it EASIER for an illegal to vote, were he or she so inclined. You only need a driver's license issued after 1996 for ID, whereas before you could use your SSN. What the law did was make it more difficult for certain US citizens in AZ to vote, due to some of the other cumbersome registration provisions it contained. Voters were swindled into supporting it by accounts of supposed buses full of illegal aliens at polls at the border.

21. Without being able to hear him....
It appears he may be blowing the cover of the Minutemen. Hey, they're supposed to be supporting the rights of American workers & protecting us against the "terrorists" who will come across the border. (Of course, most terrorists have used the airlines.)

Could it be that he is sounding like an ignorant racist? What a shame.

23. We have to get a grip on the "immigration" framing
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 12:03 PM by UTUSN
The wingnuts complain that as soon as they bring up the "illegality" and the "national security" aspects of the immigration issue, somebody calls them racists. The vast majority of those bloviating about it ARE racists. They BLUR this issue the same way they obfuscate the pro-CHOICE (not anti-LIFE) issue.

We have to KEEP THE ISSUES focused: We are not for "illegality." We ARE for national security. We are for SOCIAL JUSTICE, HUMANE TREATMENT, AND CIVIL RIGHTS. Same as we are NOT for "abortion" - we are pro-CHOICE.
