3. Illegal immigration is an issue for ordinary Democrats and Republicans

I would posit that most are against the status quo with security situation at our borders. Nevermind airports and seaports. Some oppose the status quo because of bigoted reasons. Others cite national security or the exploitation of illegal immigrant labor by unscrupulous businesses.

As for me, I say amend labor standards/minimum wage laws to cover every laborer on US soil. (Including illegal immigrant labor) Meanwhile, hunt down as many businesses as possible that used illegal immigrant workers and fine them and make them serve hard time in prison. The tax revenue generated can be used to supplement a budget used to install advanced technology which can aid in monitoring the border/seaports/airports. That should destroy the demand for illegal labor on the US side.

But because of the desperate situation in Central America with corrupt business-friendly, US-friendly regimes that fail to invest in social programs to help the poor, they'll keep coming looking for money, which is why I think a guest worker program should be set up to address that problem until such time that they get their economic issues in order.

What about illegal immigrants who are already here? Give them amnesty and set up a guest worker program and enroll them with stipulations on them getting vaccinations, English language training, etc. If you want to work, then you would have to abide by these stipulations. It's either that, or you round them up and boot them out, and I don't think that's possible given the sheer number of them. Another approach would be to ignore them, but that's not tolerable in my opinion.
