AP:
Indicted Rep. Tom DeLay, forced to step down as the No. 2 Republican in the House, scored a soft landing Wednesday as GOP leaders rewarded him with a coveted seat on the Appropriations Committee.
DeLay, R-Texas, also claimed a seat on the subcommittee overseeing the Justice Department, which is currently investigating an influence-peddling scandal involving disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff and his dealings with lawmakers. The subcommittee also has responsibility over NASA -- a top priority for DeLay, since the Johnson Space Center is located in his Houston-area district.
"Allowing Tom DeLay to sit on a committee in charge of giving out money is like putting Michael Brown back in charge of FEMA -- Republicans in Congress just can't seem to resist standing by their man," said Bill Burton, spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
(snip)
DeLay was able to rejoin the powerful Appropriations panel -- he was a member until becoming majority leader in 2003 -- because of a vacancy created after the resignation of Randy "Duke" Cunningham, R-Calif. Cunningham pleaded guilty in November to charges relating to accepting $2.4 million in bribes for government business and other favors.

What a load of crap. They should move the committee meetings to the local jail, since that's where he is heading.

20. I just called Nancy Pelosi's office in Washington about this |
|
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 11:09 AM by radio4progressives
The Staffer didn't know what i was talking about... so i repeated it, and she said "there's nothing that can be done about it"..
I said that's not true, and that if Nancy Pelosi and the DP Leadership puts all their eggs into the 2006 mid term election basket before they start to do anything - is not only wrong headed, a terrible gamble, but that it is a fatal mistake.
waiting to do anything until midterm elections as if the elections fraud/rigging has been fixed, as if the party rank & file voters are not extremely upset and leaving the party, stopped funding should be considered as a winning strategy is insane, that together with the mainstream media that has been taken over by Republican operatives with the agenda to promote Conservative viewpoints & win elections for Republicans is not a basis for a winning strategy.
the staffer had no idea what i was talking about.

people are putting all the eggs in the basket of a 2006 house victory.
but none of the other problems that rigged the past three elections have been dealt with. among several problems that's a big one. under all rules of logic and justice, he shouldn't be a free man today, much less walking the halls of congress and sitting on these committees.
please explain what leap of faith brings you to conclude that there will be a victory for the house in 2006?

7. That sure was a boehner-headed decision, even if it is just a seat on the |
|
committee. Dems should blast this daily until it is rescinded. Putting that fox in the chicken coop will give us a reason to second guess every Justice Department decision regarding the Abramoff cases.
