While 9/11 was a horrific event, there are values and beliefs that were around long before that day, and superseed the events of that day! Radical Islam has been around for HUNDREDS of years. People tell you that since we saw such an impressive attack as 9/11, that we are somehow living in a "new" world where the government gets a freehand over our values. Yet we HAVE been attacked in times past (OKC Bombing and '93 WTC Bombing ring a bell? What about Beirut in 1983 or Pan Am in 1988?) We DO need to be vigilant and keep our guard against those who seek to blow us limb from limb. We PASSIONATELY care about defending our country from foreign malcontents who seek to do damage. But we cannot allow for our fear to manifest itself into a fireball of rage that consumes the very values that we are trying to DEFEND from Islamic fundies such as Osama. When a government uses fear of radicalism, they propose radical measures to deal with it!
