Doesn’t the Discoveries in New Guinea Knock You Out..
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 12:57 PM by The Whiskey Priest
Just think that in the 21st century this old earth could still have untrammeled places to be discovered.

“An astonishing mist-shrouded "lost world" of previously unknown animals and plants has been discovered high in the mountain rainforests of New Guinea

The surrounding forest was full of strange mammals, such as tree kangaroos and spiny ant-eaters, which appeared totally unafraid, suggesting no previous contact with humans.

Among the new species of birds, frogs, butterflies and palms discovered was the spectacular berlepsch's six-wired bird of paradise. The scientists were the first outsiders to see it. .”

This is really something…

1. And now for the Republicans to destroy it
After hearing about this Ecological Paradise, they now have dreams every night of slashing and burning the place.

2. I'm both amazed and saddened by it.
Part of me has that natural desire to see what's there, find out what cool new species there are, etc.

Part of me wishes the people, animals and had never been discovered, for their sake.

Sadly, cynicism wins out.

6. It really is wonderous!
And i wonder if there are still other such untouched places left on earth..and there may be. I recently saw a picture of earth from space at night..to show the places on earth that used the most energy for light..which showed clearly in the picture...but there were a lot of places..more than not that showed no light..and thought this..that there may still be many such untouched places.

10. My 16-year old daughter saw that story on the front page of our
paper when she collecting up the recycling yesterday and she stopped what she was doing and sat down and read the whole article. Then she went online and read everything she could find for about an hour.

It certainly captured her imagination. She hasn't stopped talking about it.

11. It made me smile
It's pretty rare that the news makes me smile anymore.

So many wonders our world still has in store for us. It's like the birth of a child and dreaming of all the possibilities which lie ahead.

12. You're right, it's amazing and inspiring.
The discovery of the earliest tyrannosaurid was also announced this week. Take that, "Intelligent Design"! Another clear link in the evolutionary chain!

And there are more wonders to discover. We have better maps of Mars than we do of our own ocean floor. Life proliferates in every crevice on Earth.
