American "Family" Association at it again!
Christian Group Upset by New TV Drama

A leading American Christian group has slammed a new TV show, in which a priest character regularly chats to Jesus Christ. Officials at the American Family Association are outraged by new show The Book Of Daniel, which stars Aiden Quinn as a troubled Episcopal priest. Group leaders claim they generated more than 400,000 protest emails, which were sent to bosses at TV network NBC over Christmas and now hopes advertisers will pull their support for the new drama, which starts this week. The AFA is particularly disturbed by Quinn's new TV character, Rev. Daniel Webster, who is addicted to painkillers, has an alcoholic wife, a drug-dealing daughter and a gay son. AFA spokesman Ed Vitagliano says, "It seems they made every decision they could to alienate us." But NBC officials, who have acknowledged protest emails, insist the show will go on, as planned. In a statement released earlier this week, NBC offers, "We're confident that once audiences view this quality drama themselves, they'll appreciate this thought-provoking examination of one American family."

1. I had a feeling this would happen.
My advice to these morans is to either chamnge the friggin channel or turn off the TV. Better yet, go read the Bible. They might gain some insight into the whole Christian thing they're so confused about!

4. Bush claims to talk to God... Bush claims God talks to him.
Where's the A.F.A. on that?

If the pres can, why not some fictional guy in a television program?

7. The right wing Christian fanatics want a theocracy
and they have no sense of humor. They can't accept that America is diverse and changing more all the time.

Our country was never formed as a Christian theocracy and it's not going to become one.

I'll have to check when this show comes on and turn it on.

10. Only minorities can be portrayed in a negative way
Someone on a different forum tried to argue this point - that for financial reasons, it's stupid for a tv show to portray a person that represents the majority of their audience in a negative way. In other words, only minority religions and minority races should be portrayed in a negative way, while white Christians should be put on a pedestal at all times.

The AFA's outrage disgusts me.

They should instead be beating up on Pat Roberston for saying Episcopals are the anti-Christ. But no, they're more upset that a fictional Episcopal priest has a fictional gay son.

11. Lets see - addiction to pain killers - Rush. alcoholism - Bush
and drug abusers/dealers: The entire Bush family.

Homosexuality? A homosexual prostitute was allowed full access to the White House press corps, and maybe more than we will ever know...

Hypocrisy much?

12. Don't like it?

Flip the channel with the remote! It was invented for that purpose. My aunt, who is more conservative than me, is excited about the show and she thinks it'll be really funny (she like me is Christian too). I'll probably watch the first episode to see how it is. Why don't they worry about the things Jesus actually cared about? Helping the poor? Elderly? Enviornment? Justice? Anything? Are they outraged Bush is spying on Americans? What about war?
