"The GOP simply will not cease in their attempt to muddy the waters in the exclusively theirs Jack Abramoff scandal. Another Harry Reid hatchet job just sprung up on the AP Wire:

Reid's office acknowledged Thursday having "routine contacts" with Abramoff's lobbying partners and intervening on some government matters _ such as blocking some tribal casinos _ in ways Abramoff's clients might have deemed helpful. But it said none of his actions were affected by donations or done for Abramoff.
"All the actions that Senator Reid took were consistent with his long-held beliefs, such as not letting tribal casinos expand beyond reservations, and were taken to defend the interests of Nevada constituents," spokesman Jim Manley said.

You don't say. You mean a Senator from Nevada, that represents Las Vegas, has an interest in protecting the expansion of off-resernvation casinos? Stop the presses!"

1. You just know

...that the GOP is going to try to link the Democrats to this scandal. They are pathetic...nice try indeed.

Cheers

2. Let's see if the response gets any AP coverage.

3. Who knows if it'll get coverage?
It would be nice if it stopped the handwringing at DU, though.

4. Another John Solomon Hatchet Job
Is what the article is. As Talking Points Memo points out, notice the story doesn't say what Reid did for Abramoff. Nada.

7. Also this
Josh Marshall smack down too, some of this was supposedly tied to the Mariana scandal, which I still don't know why we aren't blasting all over the place. That is just nasty stuff.

8. They're afraid of Reid
and would do anything to get rid of him. He's been a pretty good leader in the Senate (except I wish he did a little more on the filibuster but I understand though if he can't twist arms around and democrats aren't party-line voters) so now they're trying to go on this.

10. This needs a kick. Dean defended Reid on the radio tonight as well.
Edited on Thu Feb-09-06 10:01 PM by madfloridian
The host and callers would not let up on this topic. Dean handled it as well as he could after repeating himself on it over and over and then having them ask the same question again.

He kept pointing that Reid and others had worked with Indian tribes long before Abramoff came along.
