3. There are numerous reasons why posts get locked... However,

it's normally done if the original post is against the rules. Sometimes duplicate topics get locked as well. If you have a specific post in mind, let us know and we might be able to explain.

Bone up on the rules to avoid being locked.

Sometimes a thread just seems to degenerate into blood letting and the mods will shut it down as being more harmful than productive.

35. There Are Many That Sign Up At DU Just To Cause Disruption.

Generally they are referred to as freepers, due to their membership at freerepublic, which is a fascist moronic right wing parrot talk low iq website that would make you wanna puke if you read their crap. So when freepers come here to infiltrate, spread disinformation or cause disruption, the mods will ban them from being a member. This is called tombstoning, due to the tombstone icon that is shown when you click on the users profile after they're banned. But it isn't just freepers that get tombstoned. Perfectly legitimate democratic minded members that take flame fests too far, cause disruption too often, do not respect the mods or just cause too much trouble can also be tombstoned. Just read the DU rules thoroughly and you shouldn't have any future problems.

so there is generally a lot of suspicion of people with low post counts who start controversial threads. A thread critical of Cindy Sheehan, who almost everyone here greatly admires, would certainly fall under the "contoversial" category. The unfortunate fact of "Rush" being part of your username just compounded the situation.

While constructive criticism of Dems is certainly allowed here, I would wait a while before starting that kind of thread again.
