Ahhhh. Now I see why Anderson Cooper replaced Aaron Brown...
He'll do 30 minutes on a local murder of a pretty white girl as the world goes to hell in a handcart while acting as if it's the most important thing in the world!

Go, Anderson! Let's all worry about the hang nail so the cancer will go away on it's own.

1. I think Anderson is more of a "yes man"...
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 01:17 AM by TwoSparkles
Anderson is a young man on his way up the corporate ladder.

He's more malleable and more willing to kow tow to upper management.

I bet Brown wasn't.

Anderson is the son of Gloria Vanderbilt...he's an elite who would rather be invited to parties in the Hamptons--than make history as a serious, investigative journalist (who also makes waves).

6. Here's the sad part of the story ...
After the ratings that Cooper garnered for CNN during Katrina, he was suddenly seen as the fair-haired-boy who would rise to the 'top' at CNN.

Sad part: Riding high on the crest of the ratings wave, he could have DEMANDED anything, including a news show that would actually discuss REAL NEWS.

Sadder part: The reason he got those ratings during Katrina was because he was COVERING REAL NEWS - too bad the powers-that-be at CNN didn't recognize that it was REAL NEWS that was bringing in the viewers, and not Anderson Cooper talking about another blonde cheerleader-type who'd met a bad end ...

any chance of reality in news or common sense marketing.

9. CNN usually does well when they cover real news
that's why they starting going up in ratings during the 9/11 attacks,Tsunami and other news. Fox News was created for the purposes of whoring for the right wing so they didn't have what it took to cover real news. CNN did have the resources.

but CNN doesn't use those resources such as having a team in major parts of the world to cover serious important things. instead they have resorting to doing what Fox NEws does and they start losing again.

FUCK THEM ALL

19. They must have piss-poor upper management.
The flood of rightwing-slanted news-reporting, their bimbos' obsession with missing chicks, molesters, and cute animals expose the frantic attempt by CNN execs to overtake Foxx News - which they will NEVER do.

Can they be sooooo stoopid, or do they just believe what they want to believe, in spite of what they truly know?

15. But for that
you have to believe they want to educate us. They don't. They're working against us and the public just so they can keep their "jobs." The corporations control the "news" and the GOP benefits them.

but he will be the perfect whistleblower to be on CNN if anything explosive comes out of the hearing with Brown tomorrow. He will be all over that like rubber on a tire.

But he blew it. He had a chance to do what he liked, he was their golden boy after Katrina. But he sold out. What a shame. I miss Aaron, despite his bullshit. At least occasionally he did real honest news reporting.

Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 01:29 AM by bridgit
i think i understand what you're implying; we can't all be spawn of 'little gloria vanderbuilt happy at last', but cooper has had his eyes opened of late as to the power of sorrow; brown's whole shtick was holding up tomorrow's headlines  i don't wish him any ill-will, but he seemed disinclined to get out of the studio

13. wrong, bridgit
Aaron had a sense of irony, which is much lacking in the mainstream media news coverage, i.e., other than what we get from Comedy Central or late night.

Don't you get it? Aaron pointed out the frailties of the powers that be, whichever they were, and however they were vulnerable at the moment. He didn't pick which parties or even countries to make fun of on a politcal-correctness basis.

I guess not enough viewers "got it."

It doesn't take much gray matter to "get" Anderson Cooper. Good lord. Give me reruns of Green Acres as an alternative.

Cheers to Aaron Brown; I wish you well.

16. i found brown's delivery itself too flat to convey the levels of irony...
this society has been experiencing these last 12-14yrs in point of fact. but lewis black he ain't, and you don't even need grey matter to understand that. but if you think that i somehow give a ratz puh-tooty about cooper's then it is you that clearly wrong.

the entirety of american journalism itself, with the very real exception of amy goodman, is in a dire strait and needs to have all their cushy jobs vacated for a group that will substitute for a proper free press.

but as is our way here...we argue and call each other wrong for all the wrong reasons.

brown is your edward r. murrow? whatever...

21. Actually if you read up a bit on his bio, you'll find some very
dark stuff that he's lived through.

Thus his attraction at times for the dark side. He went to Darfur, he goes places many wouldn't.

He also said in an interview I saw that he expects one day he'll be canned, just what he expects.

He's very clever and witty.

When he first started doing 360, he was a riot. It is a little different now that people are watching more.

Now in what seems to be the current ambiance at DU, I expect virulent disagreement, as well as ad hominem attacks perhaps on yours truly, perhaps Cooper, and likely anyone else who comes to mind.

Have fun.

23. Weapons of Mass Distraction: Primetime Cable "News"
The point is to avoid the real news that affects us all and substitute with real life human interest type stories that directly impacts on .000001% of the population. I'd like to see the polling data that shows the general public wants this stuff. This used to be the domain of the loal news, not the national news.

25. I loved his Mole work!
I wonder if he is being pressured to cover the murder stories? His time slot competitors cover those stories so maybe since this is one of those sweeps periods he is under pressure to deliver ratings. And I must admit that I watch those stories. Maybe that's why Aaron is gone. He didn't really do those stories and maybe Anderson learned that lesson at Aaron's expense.

27. Most of the shows are being pressured...
to avoid "real" news. The RW Media Corps are complicit with the Neo Fascists. Also, they prolly believe that most Americans aren't interested in politics. The current "scandals" of the Bush Regime, Plame, Abramoff, NSA, Delay etc. may be to complex for most viewers.
