Scotty switches words - new excuse for not commenting
I noticed during yesterday's Scotty Roast, that he's using a new phrase. The oft repeated "can't comment on an ongoing investigation" appears to have been changed to:

Press Briefing by Scott McClellan, February 9, 2006

Q Scott, the National Journal is reporting that Scooter Libby has testified that Vice President Cheney authorized him to release classified material involving the National Intelligence Estimate and Iraq. Do you know anything about that?

MR. McCLELLAN: I heard about this story earlier today, but I think you know our policy when it comes to this ongoing legal proceeding, and it hasn't changed.

Q Do you know anything about any authorization to release any classified material --

MR. McCLELLAN: Well, again, our policy is we're not going to discuss this while it's an ongoing legal proceeding, and that remains our policy.

I'm not sure when it switched, just noticed it. But it certainly covers a much longer period of time to not talk about the corruption in their midst.

1. Or, in other words
"we're trying to keep our lies to a minimum right now so we don't have to answer for them later."

2. Very attentive viewer --
thanks for pointing this out. Another linguistic strategy that's being used by practically all Rs is this: whenever it would be appropriate to use the word, "democratic," the Rs say, "Democrat." I read that their pollmeisters have determined that the word, "democratic," is much more favorably received than the word, "Democrat." Whether this is true or not, I don't know; but it's the reason given. Occasionally an R. will slip up and use the correct form, (ex. "the democratic agenda,") and then change it to "the democrat agenda." It's almost comical, but it is also very irritating. They are actually just making fools of themselves, using poor grammar as a way of trying to insult Democrats.

3. You make a point. But I'm more frequently entertained by Scotty squirms.

What I find insulting, though this is not aimed at Democrats, but all democratic Americans, is the frequent refusal of administration officials to testify under oath.

It's not like their being asked about interns.

5. They've learned the Libby lesson.
Lying under oath will get you in deep doodoo. Instead of not lying, they have adopted the tactic of avoiding being under oath. It's not the swearing to god that's important, even though the bible forbids the practice, it's the legal responsibility. Fu*king hypocrites.

6. "The current impeachment is an ongoing legal proceeding....."
"....therefore the president has no comment and wishes to add that he doesn't respond to focus groups such as Congress or The People"
