We Have Hope, My friend from Texas, RED as they come, is disgusted with W
and will vote Blue next time. She had backed Bush and watched in Horror in these last year or so and is now convinced Bush and GOP is way over the top....she plans to vote Blue to voice her displeasure with the GOP.

She told me many others feel this way...and to top it off, she and husband are not exactly happy with DeLay also.

She lives in Sweeny, 140 miles S of Houston. zip 77480

We are old friends and she came to Hawaii because her mother is ill. We spent the evening with friends and she told me of her change. Of course I welcomed her change and encouraged her return to Sanity and Reason.

1. My friend from CA has changed too.
For the first time, he says he's disgusted by Bush. Because of Iraq. I used to argue with him, try to convince him. Well, Bush has convinced him himself. He's done a complete turnaround.

2. That's good news. What is her chief gripe? The war? The deficit?
Katrina response? Spygate? Plamegate? The obvious lies? Fear about him starting war on Iran? Incompetence? Corruption?

I'm wondering what is hitting honest GOP voters the most.

3. I have seen this change too...
I have many friends in Texas, the Midwest and the Deep south and I have heard much stronger words against this cabal from people who wouldhave probably sold their youngest child into slavery to prove their loyalty as recently as last fall. Things have changed BIGTIME!!! The funniest comments have come from Alabama, words I won't repeat in this polite company. LOL!!:bounce:

4. Read an op-ed letter in the Conroe, Tx paper yesterday, found
another staunch repub coming over. 3 paragraphs of discontent over Bush lies, tax breaks for the rich, Big oil incentives, no health care, etc. Little by little bush is dismantling his base. Hope he doesn't dismantle the country before he gets impeached or otherwise leaves (I really don't care how, but soon would be nice!).

9. I changed over, too
I was still young at the time (20), so I hadn't really been involved in politics much, and my parents were Republicans, so I just naturally sided with them, not knowing much about politics. I remember waking my mom up at like 3am on election night when they called the election for Bush (in 2000), and remember watching Fox News everyday, because I just knew they were gonna announce that we found WMDs anyday now.

Needless to say, about 4 years or so has passed, and I realized these people are morons, and I was pretty dumb for supporting them "just because" my parents were Republicans. So while I consider myself relatively independent, I plan to vote for the Democrats in every election until I die. Unless, of course, they screw the country over worse than this administration, but that would be quite the undertaking.

conservative when they're young. I was too, decades ago. I thought Barry Goldwater was pretty cool when he came to give a speech in my Texas town. My best bud's brother had been thrown out of the John Birch Society for being TOO CONSERVATIVE! We thought that was really funny.

It takes time and experience to see more than the media show us. It also takes courage, because what we learn then is a lot less comforting and more complicated than the spin. That's one reason so many still reject the uncomfortable truth.

I do think a bipartisan congress is best, because each side keeps the other honest and they have to work harder at thinking through solutions to problems. But that's with REAL Republicans as the opposition - and they were the first to be sidelined by the neocon movement, which is a radical group utterly different from the traditional fiscally conservative, states-rights GOP. The neocons are poison.

20. Welcome, Welcome!
I'm glad you awoke to your own reality instead of relying on someone else's -- even a parent's. I have relatives who still vote Republican solely because their parents did, despite the parents having passed and the 'child' being in their forties. You might check in your area to see if there are any 'young Democrat" organizations as they are always in need of people with energy and convictions!

29. Welcome to DU, W_HAMILTON. I've always been a Dem, but
in the past considered a true Rep had every right to his/her opinion and vote, and sometimes I even agreed with them on some issues. When the Dimson said, re: Osama, "I don't know where he is and I don't spend time thinking about him", well, that did it for me. He doesn't want to find Osama because his little turf war will be over - the American people will be satisfied and he knows it. These days I just think Reps have pulled the cover over their eyes and refuse to come to reality. When it really hits them in the pocketbook, they will vote for a Dem to get us out of the mess their own party starts - happens every time.

34. I have a similar story.
I was never a Republican but, up until 2000 I was pretty apolitical. I too watched the news constantly as the war kicked off hoping that any day now the WMDs would be found not for any love of Bush but, because I wanted our country to be doing the right thing. I too will vote for the Democrats until I die or like you said they do start messing up like Bush has.

I live in a small republican stronghold here in Texas, and it is as red as it gets! They hold regular fundraisers for republicans, and at election time, there are only a handful of dems that vote here. But things are changing. I hear more and more these days how upset they are with republicans, namely, Rick Perry, governor, and of Course the idiot in chief, Bush. These are conservatives, true conservatives who were duped by Bush. Bush went on a spending spree unprecedented by any president, and it has conservatives pissed!

Bush is a corporate Jazzybell and even the dogs on the gut wagon all :puke: at the thoughts of him smirking and lying on their TVs around the clock.

Even the GOP swine in congress are starting to oink out against and squeal on, the Fuhrer Wanna'-bee! Even the slack jawed, Freeper oaf, types are doing double takes about the tax and spend GOPers.

O' The Times They Are A-Changin'! :nuke:

Wolfing up the wrong stump on an election year!

Will the sheeple stand still for the GOP STEALING yet another election? Gawd-dammit I hope Not!

Anyone remember the great Texas Walkout a few years back, when the GOP wanted to redraw all the districts in their favor? The Dems fled the state in order to prevent a vote on the issue - I most of them holed up across the border in Oklahoma.

Just curious, what was the resolution from all that?

10. How much good will this do us if the election problems aren't fixed?
A recent thread pointed out we could just end up with the Democratic version of the BFEE. Yeah, I'm at the point where I don't trust many of the Democrats. :tinfoilhat: Some are just there to provide the illusion of an opposition party. I'm not sure what to do with my feelings. The thought is so overwhelming that I don't have the faintest idea of how to address the problem. The only thing we can do is at least pretend that the Dems are on the up-and-up. If a DLCer makes it into the White House or if a previously sane-sounding Dem starts in on Republican-Lite policies, my head may explode.

Yeah, yeah, one thing at a time. Try to fix the voting problem. Try to elect a Dem. Sigh.

The sickened outrage in his expression says it all. And think of what it took to make him so angry he got his sign and came to a Democratic rally and dared to take a "cut and run" antiwar stance.

17. SO WHAT?
I would'nt exaclty being cheering in the streets over this. Most "reds" (commies??? ;)) are disgusted with Bush For not being conservative ENOUGH!
AS if that is even possable. Yet Ironically i agree with them on some of thier points. He spends money like a drunken Sailor (mostly on War toys). He let the deficit go higher than a hydrogen weather balloon, while at the same time giving cuts to the top 1%. He is scornfully known as "Jorge Arbusto" for his allowing the South border to be open. He DIDNT allow the so-called "death tax" to be repealed (waaah! sugar daddy only left me 3000 millions! the rest went to my Uncle Sam.) ETC ETC. It is these "conservative" issues that they are angry at him for. But guess what? he aint gonna get reelected anyway. So maybe they are mad at him, but come 2008 they will vote for the new fresh faced liar with an R next to his name. You know the routine, he'll claim he's a moderate and then once in office his first act will be to repeal all coperate taxes, ban abortion, put "Evolution is only a theory" in all science text books, Pass the "save our forests" bill in which Logging companies are allowed to harvest from national parks. ETC FUCKING ETC!! OOOOPPPS, this is only my 6th post here, can i say fuck on this board? ;)

18. conversions
I'm sorry, but these 'eleventh-hour' conversions don't much sway me. Most die-hard republicans have known the truth for a long while, and secretly hoped Bush could pull it off. Don't kid yourself; they'll quietly wait for the next opportunity for a putsch, just as Rove, Rummy and Cheney did after Watergate. All this makes me feel that we need to be vigilant this time to punish the criminals but good, and (try to) remove the cancer once and for all. Bush to the Hague!

for every Repug who converts to Sanity --there are 50 who are merely disappointed that the B**h agenda isn't going so well. Right...they are busy consolidating their gains and planning their next moves. Absolutely we have to seek and destroy the cancer eating at the American corpus to have any real effect.
Otherwise they'll keep coming back like a replicating virus.

Yeah save us from those who are finding the kool-aid tasting a little sour these days. I forgive ONLY the young who just went along with their parents. The rest need to spend some years experiencing the hell they have inflicted on others. I'm all for sincere conversions and it is heartening to hear that there are some. OK so now repent and pull together with us then. But we must NEVER underestimate the reactionary forces in positions of power. They are voracious opponents and will not be denied. It will come down to a battle between those who still retain some integrity and those who have never had any.

is on the same side of a local issue as I am. Went to get flyers from him at the German American club (good food there), where he was playing cards with a rat pack. He said that when he goes to meetings and speaks out against the bushitler the rats attack him, but he continues to try to wake people up. Yuck I could barely shake his hand but I did (washed right away). So it is happening. The rats are jumping ship. Be patient.

40. Skittles, my friend actually liked Ann Richards, never voted for her, but
liked her as Governor...thought she did good.

She is not happy with what BushCo did to Texas...its still a mess and the current Gov is not a help/solution.

This is one of those Times I guess when:

Ya git what ya wish/vote for
