Thanks so much for yet another in your series of hard-hitting articles detailing appropriate funeral demeanor. Trust me, there is nothing African-American Baptists appreciate more than being told by a rich, flabby, Catholic, white guy in a bad suit how to mourn the passing of one of their own. I must also congratulate you on the remarkable restraint you have displayed to date in refraining from referring to the Rev. Joseph Lowery as an "uppity spook". I know this has been difficult for you.

I've been to black Baptist's church for a friend's dads funeral. I've unfortunately been to a lot of funerals and I'd never seen anything like it. It was a celebration of the man's life with a lot of passion from all the speakers. Lots of energy, a celebration of the man's life and accomplishments; I felt much better after attending. If I have a funeral, I want it to be like that.
