We need a thread on police state scenarios
I think most DU'ers are aware of this criminal administration's attempts to neuter the powers they share with the legislature and judiciary and render them useless. After seeing Brownie's hearing this morning, it's obvious the power they need to enforce this concept will come from the military.

Having lived for the past 50 years in America, it's hard to imagine what it would be like to live under martial law. I have no doubt this is the ultimate goal of the neocons, so feel it's important we create a thread of possible scenarios we could face should they accomplish that goal.

There are so many brilliant people here on DU with a wonderful grasp, historically speaking, of what other countries have experienced under a dictatorship. Let's put those experiences in this one thread as a reminder to all that it can and will happen here as well if we don't remain vigilant.

1. Let's start in NYC where since 911 law enforcement has been
out of control. With so many stops for ID checks for motorists and passengers aboard subways getting 50 dollar summonses and warrant checks for just having your shopping bag on the seat next to you. Its bad, and getting worse. God forbid you mouth off to our cops ttoday, you get an ass kicking, arrest and jailed all in the name of "terrorism". All brought to us courtesy of the bush crime family and 911...BTW, MIHOP for me!!

2. You must be unaware
of the many threads that get posted regarding such scenarios. As far as I'm concerned, all they do is foster more fear. People seem to get a kick out of painting the most dire scenarios they can dream up.
Useless.

5. I don't see how you can think this is useless
And it's certainly not intended as fearmongering. You say many threads mention police state, but I've not seen any concrete scenarios of what that entails. If we're aware of what those scenarios could be, it will help foster anger and not fear. It is ignorance that breeds fear, not knowledge.

The history of the movement to do this starts with Nixon and what the NYTimes refuses to report upon. The gist of the movie 3 Days of The Condor reveal this: did the paper print what the Redford character wanted...or did it follow what the Cliff Robertson character pointed to ? The proof comes 30 years later, in 2004.

Thirty year old stale plans to seize oilfields in the Persian Gulf are the order of the day rather than SANE planning done by Amory Lovins' group www.oilendgame.com whose conservation ideas helped get us out of the last two oil crises.

Bush/Cheney say 'when the Iraqis stand up, the US will stand down (withdraw)', however, the lie is revealed in the Quaker domestic spying fiasco:

If the U.S. is ultimately leaving Iraq, why is the military building 'permanent' bases?
http://www.fcnl.org/iraq/bases.htm

This is why the Quakers are being spied upon domestically...tell the truth, go to jail.

4. We are NOW living in a police aka Creeping Fascism &
have been for years. Some examples:

Police road blocks - especially in certain neighborhoods around election time.

Police traffic light cameras - they are popping up around Atlanta like mushrooms - They should pass a law that any city counsel that votes for them should have cameras in intersections where they live, before subjecting anyone else to it.

Domestic spying on dissidences - remember Hoover - spied on MLK, Malcolm X - Nixon spied on 'Jews'& peace protesters

Censorship on what can be watched on TV & Movies & what we can read. Movie & TV rating system is a form of censorship. No more live broadcast - always a delay - since the wardrobe malfunction incident. Lets not forget Howard Sterns. Now you have to pay to hear him & soon that forum will be monitored by gov't. Local communities are always banning books from school & libraries. They might as well burn them while they are at it. Oh yea, if you do go a library - what you check out will be checked out by gov't.

War on Drugs - way to send dissidence & minorities to jail.

New cars with secret GPS that gov't can see, but illegal for you to remove.

Corporations spying on employees - reading email & listening to phone conversations.

Corporations ability to sell your private info without your knowledge & consent

so many more to list, but gotta go back to work - did you hear that clicking noise too? :tinfoilhat:

9. Funny timing
one of my former students came to visit the school today, and he casually mentioned how tired he is of being pulled over by police. I laughed and teased him about his driving skills, and he said it wasn't that - he keeps getting pulled over for no reason, they ask if they can search his car, he always says yes, then they go back to their car and drive off (without conducting the search). He's not getting cited for any infractions. The only thing I can imagine is they're pulling him over for DWB (driving while black).
