1. Don't forget that it's our country too. |
|
That their are still people out there who care about other people.Someday we will get our chance to lead again. When we do all the truths will come out and it will take a longtime for the Republicans to become a force again. We shall overcome!

not sure how old you are, but when I was born, lynching wasn't exactly considered ancient history :(

4. Lynching, along with rigid segregation not only according to race |
|
but to a less visible extent, to income, profession, religion, and nation of origin was still around and doing very well in the 1950s. The new postwar suburbs were often marketed to working class, or to the new managerial class, or to the newly empowered skilled tradesmen, and they never met in the same suburb until they started to move around and sold their houses to "inappropriate" people. The only good thing the suburbs did was break down a lot of the old class divisions, although not the economic or racial ones.
The systematic oppression of women was another great part of the 1950s. Women had been fired from their jobs in skilled trades and the professions (my mother was an engineer, fired in 1945) to make room for men returning from war. The only opportunities for women was as nurses, teachers, secretaries, and waitresses. None of the management for any of those jobs was female.
In some ways, the country has always sucked for somebody. It's only recently that a gang of criminals who no longer care has seized power.
