3. You had to ask?
They're under fire for illegal wiretaps against American citizens whose only crime was in speaking out about bad policies and they want to get their dictatorial powers reinstated in perpetuity via the Patriot Act.

They obviously put together two different plots (Richard Reid and the original larger 9/11 plot) to come up with something they thought would be different enough to scare the booboisie.

Whether or not they succeed is anyone's guess.

5. considering the current shit storm I think so
it's pretty obvious that the Bush crowd are trying desperately to divert attention away from the boatload of scandals that is piling up of late. The scare tactics are intended to frighten people and take the heat off the neocons methinks.

I nearly posted to ask DU'ers if they think the release of so much bad news for Shrub and Co reflects a power struggle. The neocon crowd are trying to precipitate war and thus divert the heat away from the sleaze; those who realise just how dangerous attacking Iran would be are trying to bring them down, hence all the bad news for Bush and Co of late. That's my reading of what's currently happening.

7. The only good news
is that it's not just us "weird" DU'ers that get that now. Keith Olbermann says it's 1984 redux. And ya know-the one thing I wish some would get-is that the reason propaganda works it's because it's a total lie but because it's a little truth. I bet some terrorist had that plan of that building on his computer. Or talked about bombing it. Something-but the scenario that Mr. Unitary Executive laid out made so little sense that he kind of screwed his case. Shoebombs and hijacked planes as missiles attacking liberty tower. The husband had quite a laugh when I told him. When people are laughing it's hard to keep them scared.

9. In the Neo Fascist's attempt at showing how they...
are protecting America they bungled the story. They gave the script to shrub who as usual was clueless, and he screwed up the narrative. The Neo Fascists are evil but they are also screw-ups. All but the Bushbots deem this story laughable.

12. "Wag The Dog" is a nice catchy phrase to repeat in every letter & e-mail
To the MSM, LTTEs, Reps, and any other dissemination of information while complaining about Bush's alleged 'Glorious Terror Victory.'

The Republicans have already done an excellent job of educating everyone exactly what it means.

14. Ask L.A. Mayor Villaraigosa -- he think's it's horseshit!!!
Actually, those weent his exact words. Villaraigosa called the timing of the announcement "curious." ;)

http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/la-na-bush10feb10,1,541715.story
L.A. Times, 2/10/06:
<snip>
The details did little to counter skepticism from Democrats and some law enforcement officials who have questioned whether the reported scheme had ever been put into operation before it was thwarted.

"It didn't go," said one U.S. official familiar with the operational aspects of the war on terrorism. "It didn't happen."

The official said he believed the Library Tower plot was one of many Al Qaeda operations that had not gone much past the conceptual stage. The official spoke on the condition of anonymity, saying that those familiar with the plot feared political retaliation for providing a different characterization of the plan than that of the president.

Bush's chief domestic security advisor, Frances Townsend, said the plotters had described their target only as the tallest building on the West Coast, and that it was the "analytic judgment" of the U.S. intelligence community that they intended to strike the Library Tower.
<snip>
When news of the reported plot surfaced two years ago, some counter-terrorism officials treated it with skepticism. By contrast, Bush on Thursday cast the foiling of the plot as a significant development that underscored the danger and persistence of Al Qaeda.
