Suuuuuuuuuure he didn't MEAN for the mikes to be on.
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 04:13 PM by The Witch
President Bush defended his warrantless eavesdropping program Friday, saying during what he thought were private remarks that he concluded that spying on Americans was necessary to fill a gap in the United States' security.

Reporters then were ushered out — "I support the free press, let's just get them out of the room," Bush said — so the president could speak privately to his fellow Republicans.

"I want to share some thoughts with you before I answer your questions," said Bush, unaware that microphones were still on and were allowing those back in the White House press room to eavesdrop on his eavesdropping defense.

Uh-huh. Unaware. Suuuuure.

And Karl Rove heard Valerie Wilson's name from Tim Russert, and Bush won the 2004 elections, and, as a certain Mr. Cafferty said, "pigs fly upside down and the moon is made of green cheese and there's no quid pro quo from a lobbyist who is also your landlord.

"Do I look like I just fell out of the back of a vegetable truck to you?"

1. First thing that popped up in my mind too.
He just happens to give all of his canned lines while he is supposedly being candid?

2. I don't know
I'm willing to concede at least the possibility that Bush and Rove might make a mistake or two along the way.

But now that I see your extra large font - i'm completely won over.

6. Credit where credit is due
Bush does do what he's told. He's going to be lost with Cheney and Rove in jail.

7. I don't buy it either.

As soon as I read it I wondered why he would make a point of saying that the conversation should not leave the room if he was just going to say the same crap that he says in public.

On edit: I had only read the earlier report, upon skimming through your linked article I see this:

...it was telling that the president chose the controversial NSA program as the first topic to raise out of reporters' earshot. Even so, there was no substantive difference between those statements and the series of public speeches he has given recently on the program.

Exactly what I just said.

9. Delibrate? Perhaps, but that doesn't make it legal-er...
It's just another example of Bush taking the intelligence of the country for granted and being totally right about how stupid his constituants are.

12. Now where are my thigh high waders? Oh right I gave up wearing them
because it's been always too deep to bother lately. :puke:

Here's what I think it the best quote from the article, "I take my oath of office seriously. I swear to uphold the Constitution and laws of the United States," Bush said." Such blatent horse puckey actually made my jaw drop. If he upheld the Constitution and the laws of the United States he wouldn't need to be defending spying on Americans without a legally issued warrant because he would never have do such an unconstitutional and illegal thing.

This has been the typical operating procedure with this "president".

Just like when Cheney meets every Tuesday with Senate republicans to discuss their strategy for the week.

I may have been born at night, but it wasn't last night.

This tells you what this mis-administration thinks of the 'little' people. You know, the people that Barbara doesn't want to hurt her 'beautiful' mind.
