I'm wondering about Libby's defense
He stated that basically Cheney AUTHORIZED him to leak information to the media to discredit Wilson's report about the Niger claim.

I am assuming that in order for this defense to stick - that would mean that Libby would have solid proof of this allegation...or else it would come down to he said - he said....and words are cheap without proof.

So - where is Libby now? Is he free? Is he in jail waiting for his trial? And I cannot help thinking that Cheney would cover his tracks better than this - or that there is a legal loophole that he will slide through escaping criminal justice. Libby would not slide the blame to Cheney unless Cheney had a solid basis to fight the charge.....they are both in it too deep in my opinion.

And will this be a juried trial? Wasn't the judge appointed by Bush?

There is something niggling my mind that says this is too good to be true.

And of course - Cheney got what he wanted anyways in the end. He got his war. And Halliburton and his oil buddies are swimming in profits.....Even if he is forced to resign - it does not go far enough to recompense Iraq or the world for what he has wrought.

1. The trial is a year away
Libby's out on bond.

Don't get all twisted up in this "defense" stuff. It's meaningless, nothing but someone's spin. You'll never know what defense will be set up.

Better to watch the Abramoff investigation, see what that brings.

2. Libby is still on the hook
Even if this claim can be proved to be true, the charge against Libby is lying to the grand jury. Saying he was authorized to release secrets doesn't change that at all. He still lied to the grand jury.
