A question for everyone: WHAT'S NEXT?
I come here everyday and read--and I just recently joined... Today, I was looking at the threads and thinking What's Next?

I see that George Bush is lousy, rotten, corrupt, stupid, dense, selfish, horrible--the worst president we've ever had. And Karl Rove is mean, rotten, corrupt, selfish, and nasty. And Rumsfeld is horrible, an ogre, rotten, dictatorial, a warmonger, and the worst man on earth...etc.etc. etc.

Once all these adjectives get used on them, what's left? They're the same words, everyday--and they'll mean the same thing tomorrow they did today and did yesterday. I mean, you guys all have good vocabularies. You've hit on all the right adjectives...

Once the word 'worst' gets used, though, there's nothing worse than 'worst'.

So, what's next? What are we left with? Everything is still the same and we have but to drag out the same old list of adjectives tomorrow morning, in reply.

We just moved to the state of Washington, so I'm not quite sure how things work here... I wish there wasn't so much time between elections...

I don't know WHAT there is to do--we've met our Dem precinct capt. and we're trtying to get hooked into that--but that's for home. On the board here, I don't want to repeat the same adjectives everyday--they don't do any good; we're already the choir!

Bear in mind, as to the choir thing, that these forums are a damned good source of links to information, ideas and calls to action.

have you among us.

We hurl those adjectives at the Bush administration not out of cynical disrespect for the office but for the betrayal of that office by Condi, Dick, Don, and so on. We stand and we applaud the office but we abhor and castigate those who betray it.

Especially if they cheated to get there in the first place. Twice.

What's next? We let public awareness and outcry run their course until critical mass is achieved. Then we volunteer to work for progressive candidates in the Democratic or Green or other parties, door-to-door and late into the night. Grassroots community politics are a good, good thing, and many of us like to throw our selves into that process. It's a psychically affordable and contributive form of democracy.

Welcome again to DU.

In a reality were everyone did what's right, BushCo would be immediately imprisoned for high crimes. The PNAC Boys would be made a laughingstock, and the U.S. might try a bit of diplomacy in the world. But let me put down the opium pipe for a moment...

In the meantime, there's this thing called a mid-term election ***this year*** -- that, if anything, is what's next! :grr: That, and we keep up the pressure on the lapdog media, and our Democratic senators and reps who might be dragging their feet.

But seriously: I do believe Bush is the worst president we've ever had. We've had other ineffective ones, other unqualified ones, other corrupt ones, other cronyist ones, other not-so-bright ones... but never had we had one that rolls up all those bad qualities so neatly.

And tomorrow he'll still be the worst. Maybe one day we'll have a worse one; then he'll be second worst.

Fortunately the English language is strong and will withstand...

23. DU is a healing place
we share the rants because we are committed to change and after all our work Alito was
confirmed, we have given money, given our time, wrote letters, faxed our reps, and okay
you are here for when we come back to the campfire to talk with our brothers/and sisters
before we go out again to fight. Because we lose one issue, doesn't mean we can quit,
we have to constantly get the word out, often we are the media, we repeat and repeat
the truth we discover until it reaches the real world either in print or on the talk
shows to get the word out. This country is in lock down, our vote has been stolen,
many of us here have been spied on, we have had our phones tapped, we have had hate
calls after posting here. Stay around and you will see what I am talking about.

is that some of the moles know, they are a friend of a friend of a friend and sooner or
later they link up with someone who's been to the same event you were or knows you from
your area. I am not ashamed of what I post here and most of the people in my real
world know that I blog here at DU. Look don't let the shadowriders scare you, 98%
of DU'ers are good people who helped raise $50,000 for Andy Stephensen last Spring.
They are good people who understand how alone you feel because they're walking the
same road themselves. Let the haters hate, let us walk together to make this country
a place where you feel like walking down the street smiling. I found out that by
contributing my little $20 a month to a democracy bond, there's 33,000 other little
people just like me, that adds up to $66,000 a month and 1 million bucks a year
for the good guys. Let's just walk down the road, and when people
say we're just a bunch of tin hatted bloggers, just keep mving foward and keep
talking, verify what you hear on this site by the links and tell everybody you know.
Never give in, and never give up.

although there is that, too. To say it's just passing adjectives around is, frankly, pretty darn insulting. 'Adjective' is not a pejorative term--it can apply equally to positive, negative, and neutral terms. I never said ANYTHING here is negative--that's something YOU chose to read into things that I never wrote.

I NEVER used the words 'Bush bashing'--take it up with the person who did.

I WILL say that I am astounded at the degree to which some of you DON'T listen, or reread the posts you're answering. You've written a response to NOTHING I, PERSONALLY WROTE HERE.

Kidding.

Seriously. Chill man. No need for such a heavy-handed response here, IMHO.

Bush bashing is the word for what you described and one can find it here everyday at DU, as you so duly noted. It's okay for me to use it -- to call it what it is. My choosing to use that word wasn't meant as anything directed at you in particular.

My point, though, was to say that there is more than that here at DU. There is a wealth of information here, shared and discussed by a lot of wise, creative and energetic, patriotic people.

Yes, I found your post, as a rant about never-ending adjectives used here to describe Bush & Co., and a couple of rhetorical questions for which none of us really has the answers to (yet), insulting as it did imply that there was little else we do. And although I never used the word negative, your original post does have a sort of ambiguous, negative feeling about it. I read it. I re-read it. And I did respond to what you wrote.

I can sympathize with your feelings: "What's next?" you asked.

In turn, I suggested you try different links that will take you down a path of learning, new activism, new ideas -- there are many. You'll find info here you can use and apply, or, you can click the links that just bash Bush. It's a matter of choice.

No need to get your feathers ruffled when someone points out their true feelings, BTW. And I certainly didn't mean to insult you by pointing out that you, initially, insulted me just slightly. Perhaps next time, rather than pointing out what you're not getting here and asking rhetorical questions, you can come right out and state or ask, what it is, exactly, you're seeking. You likely will get much better advice, although I see you're getting some good input thus far. Sorry mine was none too helpful.

And again, welcome to DU.

edited spelling.

Remember when he said that he asked for Coretta King's help in the campaign, he said
that every hand shake was worth 1 million votes. When has Bush ever reached out, played
to the crowd, he's strictly exclusive, made for Tv promos, then where did he get
the million dollar handshakes. I feel in my bones that he was never the pick of the
majority of the voters, he never had the number of votes that either Gore or Kerry
had, it was scripted, it was rigged and it was an illusion put together with the help
of the MSM. That's why this country is so messed up.

50. Welcome To DU Orca! I Understand Your Point Completely.
Edited on Fri Feb-10-06 10:17 PM by OPERATIONMINDCRIME
Don't worry if for the first few days or weeks you see some posters attack for what you would consider no reason. Some on here very quickly jump and give attitude at any low post count members but just know it's harmless, and that some are protective because there are many that come here to infiltrate and disrupt, so some get overly cautious :)

Anyway, in regards to your post, I hear what you're saying. But know that though we do rant a lot on here and re-use these adjectives like you say, there is a lot going on outside of DU as well by us that you should be doing as well. Things to do on DU would be voting democratically in any online polls posted to help bring about the right outcome (referred to as DU'ing polls), calling Senators and representatives as often as possible to give feedback especially when you see links here asking to do so ( it can be more effective than you realize), sending emails to media etc... to also provide feedback and help influence them, especially in attempts to get them to report the real news, and the most important thing to do on DU is to read, my friend, read. Learn all the facts, prepare yourself with the other sides spin, memorize the truth found on here so that it can be repeated off the top of your head when confronted by a repub moron spewing his parrot headed talking points. Absorb it. Make sure you always verify things on DU first before jumping to any conclusions on things reported in the media. You'd be surprised how competent the fact checking is here. (except for that time with the bush middle finger thing to the media... It was his thumb LOL)

As far as when your not on DU, there are incredibly important things we all need to do. The primary focus right now should be on organizing locally for the upcoming elections. Gather members of your community, join democratic get togethers, register people to vote, speak out on the issues, sign up to help with a campaign, volunteer your time on voting day, organize, organize, organize. Make sure whoever will lend you their ear knows the truth. Get them registered, get them out to vote. WE MUST WIN BACK CONGRESS THIS YEAR! Do whatever it takes. Learn the names of your reps and senators. Learn who's running, who's running against them. Learn about them. Get the information out about them. Take the truth to the people. Remember to be vigilant about fighting for voter verified paper balloting. We must make voting transparent again.
