Reid-Abramoff ties reported on CNN
I heard a brief news segment on CNN News right after Stephanie MIller's show that it has been revealed that Jack Abramoff had more extensive discussions with Sen. Reid than had been previously disclosed and that money had been dispatched forthwith. This is news to me. My understanding is that Sen. Reid had dealt with Indian tribes long before Jack A. had been on the scene and that Sen. Reid's dealings were entirely separate from anything Jack A. was doing. What's the story here?

20. A bunch of yahoos, I tell ya!
Always trying to be 'breaking' when it's usually just late. News it isn't to you I'm sure, but back in the day, back in the dark days of 04, when LBN really meant something, well those were the days weren't they?

Now they trip out in LBN like it's a rainy night in Palanque.

Thank Skinner we have such good trip guides for streaming consciousnesses.

19. Excuse me, it was reported as news on my liberal radio
station. I had no idea that it was anything new until it was reported on WAVZ New Haven, a liberal radio station. Whatwas I to think?

3. I Expect It Means Getting Rid Of Reid
So does this point to a cause/effect relation: DINO's are compromised by tainted influence? Stay tuned for the next episode.....

7. Think about this: Why is SENATOR REID the one who is finger-pointed...
Out of more than 40 Democratic senators who might (but don't) have circumstantial, tangential connections to Abramoff.

Why REID? I mean... it could have been Ken Salazar... could have been Barbara Boxer... hey! it could have been Hillary Clinton...

Might as well pick on the leader, right?

13. Thanks to everyone who responded but
please, folks, I was asking for guidance here. I was NOT accusing Reid of doing anything wrong, just wondering. It was just a news item on CNN, on our liberal WAVZ radio news here in New Haven.

Stop hyperventilating, folks. Just trying to get information!

15. I'm glad that you posted this
Just goes to show that the media is misleading the American public by not explaining what this scandal means. It is a purely Republican scandal, and only Republicans have been indicted.

17. Oh, ClassWarrier, please, I was alarmed when I heard it!
I just didn't expect that this would come up. I truly believe that Jack A. did not give money to Dems. But this just alarmed me, perhaps unjustifiably, but I have been arguing this with my repub. acquaitances for some time now so I don't want to be blindsided. Give me a break...

16. I posted something about this last night
and ended up with over a hundred posts, most of them slamming me. I got called freeper, among other choice things. In the course of the thread, I discovered most people hadn't even read the new AP story, and didn't know that 4 tribes that Abramoff represented, not from Nevada, gave to Reid. They'd never given to him before, and he did write letters on their behalf to the executive branch. I've read Atrios and listened last night to Dean on VPR, so I'm 90% convinced that this is just coincidence and republican antics, but it doesn't look good, and appearances can be damaging. People more than hyperventilated- they lost it.

18. This is probably another go-round of AP lies THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN
DEBUNKED. We need to know if they're up to their usual Bushie spin games with the same material or if they have changed their story nnow since the last one was proven false. (Hey, that doesn't stop them.)

Here are earlier threads on the AP Reid/Abramoff false story:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x372952
thread title (2-9-06 GD): AP tries to link Reid (D-NV) to Abramoff, Josh Marshall crushes the piece

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=364x376016
thread title (2-9-06 GD): WOW... Media Matters - AP Did a Hit Piece on Reid!!!
Comment/excerpt: Media Matters article. “The article suggested that Reid coordinated with Abramoff to sabotage proposed legislation that would have raised the minimum wage in the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. territory represented by Abramoff, without noting that, in fact, Reid was a co-sponsor of that legislation and spoke on the Senate floor in favor of its passage."

22. Thank you for your calm and informative response
I think it is really important for DUers to know that this lie is being repeated, with a fresh new coat of paint, as "news" on CNN. They referenced "new evidence" or something like that and I just about tripped on the treadmill at the gym. It was one of those WTF moments. I thought I should check it out on DU and find out what was the REAL story.

Lifelong liberal Democrat here.
