About scandals
Kirk Klinger (2/4, Letters) was correct when he said the headlines during the Clinton presidency were filled with scandal after scandal, but the so-called Clinton scandals — Whitewater, filegate, travelgate, troopergate, Vincent Foster, etc. — were created out of whole cloth by a Republican spin machine.
The creator of troopergate, David Brock, later apologized to Bill Clinton and wrote two books about his experiences with the Republican right: Blinded by the Right and The Republican Noise Machine.
The Republican attempt to bring down Clinton was well-documented in The Hunting of the President by Joe Conason and A Vast Conspiracy by New Yorker legal affairs writer Jeffery Toobin.
It shows a lack of concern for our country when Republicans would rather excuse the crimes and misdeeds of the Bush administration and the Republican House. Republicans should realize that we are all in this together and that they, too, will be hurt by the Republican culture of corruption.
