Abramoff says he met Bush "almost a dozen" times
Thu Feb 9, 2006 6:53 PM ET
By Andy Sullivan

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Jack Abramoff said in correspondence made public on Thursday that President Bush met him "almost a dozen" times, disputing White House claims Bush did not know the former lobbyist at the center of a corruption scandal.

"The guy saw me in almost a dozen settings, and joked with me about a bunch of things, including details of my kids. Perhaps he has forgotten everything, who knows," Abramoff wrote in an e-mail to Kim Eisler, national editor for the Washingtonian magazine.

Abramoff added that Bush also once invited him to his Texas ranch. The messages were made public by the American Progress Action Fund, a liberal activist group. Eisler confirmed their accuracy to Reuters but said he did not intend them to become public. They reflect the feeling of frustration he has not just with Bush but with all these guys claiming they didn't know him," said Eisler, who knew Abramoff through a book he wrote about the Pequot Indian tribe.

Bush has said he never had a discussion with Abramoff and does not remember having his picture taken with him. The White House has said Abramoff attended three Hanukkah receptions at the White House.
Eisler said he had seen five photographs of Abramoff with Bush, none taken at Hanukkah parties.
White House spokesman Scott McClellan said on Thursday that the revelations did not prove Bush knew him well.

9. Actually, everybody's getting this wrong. Meeting somebody in a dozen
settings is not necessarily the same as meeting somebody a dozen times.

He may have met with chimpy hundreds of times.

10. Those are real pix.
I was at Josh Marshall's site about a month ago and he blogged that he had seen pix at the "Reflections Photography" site, but when he went back to get them, they were scrubbed. He even called Reflections for the pix...but they denied him.

Scrub-a-Dub-Dub!

TPM Reader FL started poking around the Reflections Photography website this afternoon and even managed to find one of the key gaps.

I justed heard back from him and he told us that just over the last hour or more whole sections of the company's archives have been pulled down off the web. Sure enough, when we checked, big chunks of the site had already bit the dust. The Ralph Reed party we mentioned earlier still seems to be holding on. But the folks at Reflections already seem to have pulled a whole event from which one of Bush/Abramoff photographs had earlier been erased.

So the digital shredding party seems to be underway. Check the site before the whole things cycles down the memory hole.
