About protesting. I'm thinking of other ways. |
|
How do DU'ers feel about hanging Bush and Cheney in effigy in front of his ranch in Crawford, while he's there?
I mean Camp Casey had an effect. So now that they have made a bunch of laws keeping the protestors away, how about a busload or caravan of protestors and people to photograph and videotape the goings on, pulling up and stringing up effigy's of Bush and Cheney on a gallows?
Also, since they hated the memorial of crosses for the dead soldiers, instead we should put up stakes with different T-shirts on them like signs, surrounding the gallows. The T-shirts can say all the things the anti-Bush T-shirts say. I will donate mine that says, "I worked my ass of so how did I get this ass?"
We should put up signs as well demanding his resignation for incompetence or demand that he be tried for war crimes and crimes at home agains the American people. I don't think we should associate Cindy with this protest because she's already in hot water with them.
Anyway by the time we get all this set up, the sheriffs would be arriving soon, so we leave before then. But we'll have the video and photos to spread all over the internet. This could be just a start of protests to get his attention.
Mods, if you don't find this post appropriate, please do what you need to do, but I really want some ideas from other DU'ers about how we need to change the way we protest and yet try to keep them non-violent.

3. Yeah, great idea in theory |
|
But personally I do not want to spend years in a federal prison for trumped up charges of threats to the president and his minions.

5. This is the problem. It's what's called a thought crime |
|
and is protected under the Constitution freedom of speech ammendment supposedly. I know this type of protest isn't eveyone's cup of tea. However, if we don't start pushing the envelope to take our rights back, then we really won't have any rights anymore.
What these clowns did to Cindy at the SOTUS was not American nor Democratic. It has to stop.

8. They can. Look at all the things they did during the civil |
|
rights movement of the sixties, but if you give into that fear, you've lost. Now I know that people who have responsibilities and family that they have to think about can't do these things, but many can and it will take a lot of courage.

9. If this is too scary for most, a second idea I had was to |
|
have a "Take Back America" fair, somewhere in the desert or rural area in a campground. You know something like the burning man festival. We could burn them in effigy, sell anti-Bush and anti-war stuff. We of course wouldn't let any freepers in. We would make sure that a lot of video and photos again got on the internet.

16. How did they keep them out at Camp Casey? |
|
They just didn't fit in and had to set up a camp on the opposite side of the road, which would probably happen in this case as well.

17. I like but lets not stop there. We need to protest the Religious Right. |
|
The Religious Left rules. I just wanted to say that. But now is the time to picket the RW policy makers. We cannot just brush them off as a lunatic fringe any longer. Nows the time to start picketing the focus on the family, Fred Phelp's church, and even the Bishops council. Now's the time.

18. You'd do better hanging it in the lobby of a major news channel... |
|
...after telling a competitor that you are planning to do so. That way, you'll actually get some coverage, as well as some minor legal problems, probably. Crawford is played out by now.

on the Washington Mall? I don't think the press will cover anything, which is why we have to do it and spread it on the internet. When it becomes an item on the internet, then the press can't ignore it.

23. Why can't the press ignore what we do on the internet? |
|
They have so far. I thought my idea was a good one in that it would force a network to cover it by threatening it with being scooped by its competition. DC and Crawford didn't work because all of the networks followed the same directive in covering (or not, as the case may be) them.

26. Remember when Cindy first started her vigil at the |
|
Crawford ranch? No one played it for a week, except that the internet and AAR were jumping with the news. Finally, the MSM couldn't ignore it anymore, especially when the protest started attracting celebrities both big and small. They couldn't ignore it anymore. So I disagree with you that the Camp Casey protest didn't get any press.
I'm not dissing your idea. It could work very well. Someone should try it. I was just talking about getting the coverage somewhere and the internet seems to be the place.

21. Another protest we need is senior citizens against the |
|
prescription drug program. We need to demand a benefit that is written by doctors and patients. Not one that is written by PHARMA for their benefit at the expense of our elderly and the tax payer.

24. I think protests at the news media outlets might be a better option. |

Remember the "burning bush" guy? I think he got 3 years. They might construe a hanging effigy as a threat. :(

27. I'm afraid they might be heavy handed with the prison time |
|
for exercising our First Ammendment rights. That's why I thought of a hit and run protest, actually many hit and run protests starting in spring up to the election in November all over the country. They can't arrest all of us. Also, we need to involve progressive lawyers to keep law enforcement in line if we should get caught.
So if we put up a display so to speak and leave before the law enforcement arrives, they can't arrest you if they didn't see you do it or know who you are. Even if you get caught, the worst they could come up with is trespassing and defacing of property, I think. I would rather not be caught and keep them jumping.
I really want * to know he's an ass and that most of the country thinks he's an ass. I want him to be very uncomfortable in his presidential shoes from now on. I also want our Congress to realize that the natives are restless, the barbarians are at the gate and that they had better start thinking of doing their jobs.
Probably, the burning bush and hanging in effigy is over the top. Thanks for pulling me back a bit. That's why I wanted a discussion on this.
