Letter from a true Kool-Aid drinker
I sat down with a cup of coffee this morning to relax and read the online edition of my "hometown" newspaper, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (I may be 4,000+ miles away, but I still like to keep up). The last thing I looked at was the letters to the editor section, which today was all about Coretta Scott King's funeral. Most of the letters made favorable comments about Rev. Lowery and Jimmy Carter, but one non-favorable one just jumped out at me because it so absolutely screamed "Bushbot", a letter that was a perfect example of Junior's base, written by someone who obviously swallowed whole the lie about him being a good Christian man, someone who will undoubtedly continue to believe it, no matter what vile things the boy king does and says. A true Kool-Aid drinker.

As soon as I read it, I knew I had to post the letter on DU. Here it is in its entirety:

One of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.'s most memorable lines was about being judged "by the content of one's character . . . "

It is a shame and a disgrace that the Revs. Joseph Lowery and Jesse Jackson and former President Jimmy Carter had to reflect their appalling lack of character at Coretta Scott King's funeral. One man there, however, did show the kind of character and integrity that is modeled by Jesus Christ: It was President Bush, who chose to turn the other cheek and embrace his detractors after the obvious disrespectful comments aimed at him.

The fact that this all occurred in a church at a funeral makes it more distasteful. Thanks to those "leaders" for reminding me of why I voted for Bush.

MARIELLEN JACOBS, Acworth

Mind-boggling, isn't it?

1. Not really mind boggling anymore. To be honest, it's a little
scary to me. I just don't see that kind of mentality ever changing so I'm
concerned that things are gonna get a little messy before we have our democracy again.

3. Mariellen might be just a little...
... confused, at best, or just a wee bit of a Bush fellow traveler:

From letter to the AJC, July 30, 2005:

MARIELLEN JACOBS, Acworth

McKinney even embarrasses Dems

As a proud Democrat, I'd like to say that Cynthia McKinney is an embarrassment to me, the Democratic Party and the nation as a whole.

Though I'm not by any stretch of the imagination a fan of President Bush, I don't for a second believe that his administration played any direct part in the terrorist attacks. Yes, they made mistakes leading up to Sept. 11, but McKinney's claims are beyond the pale.

McKinney was ousted in large part due to the outrageous statements she made on this subject, and I'm astounded that anyone in her district would vote for her again. I also blame Denise Majette for seeking a Senate seat she had no chance of winning and giving McKinney another chance at her old seat. For the betterment of the country, McKinney should resign.

Note that in the above she says that she's no "fan of President Bush," but, in the letter you cited, she says she voted for him.

Y'know, confused people seem to spread confusion.

8. How very strange.
My spider sense is telling me that the "real" Mariellen Jacobs is seen in today's letter to the AJC, and that her previous one was done to make it look like Cynthia McKinney was being bashed by a Democrat. What do you think?

10. She is quoted by one of the AJC's more...
... right-wing associate editors, Jim Wooten, a while back, who is quoting, presumably, one of her cousins in one of her letters to the editor.

From all this, I think she's one of those people who'd rather piss in her pants about terrorists than confront the evidence head-on that her government has told her a passel of lies, just because her cousin is in the army. That's why I suggested she was just confused.

Cheers.

6. I've been to Acworth.
How do you cope living in such a red place?

I lived in Decatur and Atlanta until I was 14, but we moved to Gwinnett County when I was 14 - I always felt like I was suffocating there. My dad and the rest of my extended family now live in NE Georgia, in Madison and Oglethorpe Counties. Whenever I visit, I feel exactly like I did when I was a teenager, like the life is being choked out of me.

It's not quite as bad here.

16. Really? I'm glad to hear that. I lived in 'Mayretta' in late 80's early
'90s and found that once I got that far out of Atlanta things got very weird (in a deliverance kind of way).
Wow, the spell check just tagged "mayretta" and the first option is marietta.

It was my understanding that Jesse Jackson DIDN'T go to the King funeral.

14. the only thing Bush has in common with Jesus is the ability to . . .
take a modest amount of something and multily it exponentially . . . with Jesus it was fishes and loaves; with Bush it's deficits . . .

15. One to Avoid
If you want to stay calm while reading the old home-town paper, avoid Jim Wooten as you would avian flu. The man is a walking plague. I still live in Atlanta and cringe every time I see his by-line. The kindest thing I can say about him is that he demonstrates all the symptoms of pre-senile dementia. Wooten never met a contradiction he could not embrace and is a legendary swiller of the Kool-Ade. Ugh!:puke:

I read his column only once and it was enough to last a lifetime. On the other hand, I really like Cynthia Tucker and adore Jay Bookman.

You are a kindred soul. Bookman answers his own e-mail and is very appreciative of positive comments. You can just imagine how he gets flamed by the knuckle-draggers.

24. I have a little crush on Jay Bookman.
We had a brief exchange of e-mails about a year ago and found him a lovely, intelligent man. I'm a big fan of his writing and like the fact that he's interested in his readers' opinions.

Does Jay get flamed on the AJC, or on RW websites? I may have to open a can of whoop-ass on somebody...

22. HAHAHA ! SHE ADMITED BUSH BROKE THE LAW !! OMFG!
Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 03:46 PM by rpgamerd00d
Note: NONE, repeat, NONE of the comments referred to Bush. They simply brought up wiretapping, Katrina, and Iraq. She simply assumed that BUSH was the one responsible for the mishandling of each of these three things, which THEREFORE means she subconciously BLAMES BUSH HERSELF FOR THOSE THINGS!

OMG Psychology RULES !
