Hitchens is eager to Iraq 'n' roll

Leave it to pro-war pundit Christopher Hitchens to rile up a crowd of New York liberals.

The catcalls started almost from the moment the prickly Brit began defending the Iraq adventure during Wednesday night's squabble at the Ethical Culture Society.

"Make zoo noises!" Hitchens taunted. "Bear in mind, if you had been listened to, Bosnia would part of greater Serbia, Afghanistan would be run by the Taliban, and Saddam Hussein would still be in charge of Iraq."

For good measure, he added: "British intelligence was quite right to say that Saddam Hussein was seeking uranium in Niger. That you can look up."

To which a peacenik screamed: "F- you!"

"Shut up," Hitchens retorted. "You're rude and silly. And ugly."

Afterward, a deeply satisfied Hitchens smoked a cigarette. "I know how to hurt their feelings because I know what they're going through. ... I have a real relish for inflicting pain on them."

STANDING FIRM

CHRISTOPHER ("Hellbound") Hitchens is a brave man, defending the war in Iraq two nights in a row this week in front of hostile crowds who came to shout him down rather than listen to his arguments. Wednesday, he urged the bellowing mob at the Ethical Culture Society to make "zoo noises." Thursday at Cooper Union, in a "debate" with Playthell Benjamin, hecklers shouted "Chicken hawk!" at Hitchens. During the Q&A, blowhards launched into seething diatribes instead of questions. "It was nothing short of chaos over there," said one witness. Hitchens walked out early.

1. Does he still have british citizenship? Why do we give him so much
air time? I mean, really, if he isn't an American, listening to him here is like forcing Rush Limbaugh on the brits in Britain.

2. Who the hell cares what Hitchens thinks? His brain has atrophied to
whatever it was at age 5.

5. Standing firm? Hitchens walked out early
But what else would one expect of a drink-soaked, former Trotskyist popinjay?

6. The article is slanted
It calls questioners "blowhards" and uses loaded language to describel their actions. Yet Hitchens is spun as "firm". The facts are completely on the questioners side, but that is not even alluded to in this article. Only Hitchens' ridiculous spin is reported, in faithful stenographer style. Yuck.

8. Exactly.
I've seen him do this in debates - the man is sadistic, pure and simple.

He gets off targeting liberals with an arrogant display of self-delusional hyperbole. Alcohol has caused enormous brain damage.

One of his dearest friends is David Horowitz, the most vile human that attacks the universities with his McCarthyism type enemy list. They are both provocateurs, bought and paid for by the CIA.

7. *rotfl* ~ 'Saddam was looking for Uranium from Niger' ~ his brain
really is fried.

He's not hurting anyone I know, that poor fool is only hurting himself by proving how delusional he is.

His book sales must be near zero so he's trying the 'shock and awe' routine to try to earn some money to support his drinking habit.

It's embarrassing to see him splutter and try to act like some sort of intellectual as he spews out the, mostly refuted and now criminal, propaganda ~ someone who cares about him (if there is such a person) ought to put him away and get him some treatment, if it's not too late.

He's a very sick man! He's become a sort of freak that people watch for the same reason they stop to look at car wrecks.

9. Why does this waterhead drunk have a voice?
Why do we pay attention to him, and how did such a raving drunk get such national attention?

10. The accoustics in Cooper Union aren't that hot to begin with, so a
chorus of "zoo noises" would have made the evening "chaos," as the account said.

My only question for Hitchens on Iraq is about the yellow cake. If British intelligent has proof that Saddam sought yellow cake from Niger, why don't they produce that evidence and silence the debate on that part of the debate?

Hand me that evidence and I'll examine it and if need be, change my mind. Absent that development, I say Blair, Cheney, Bush, Rice, Rumsfeld, et al are a pack of liars.

11. This is Why I Hate Neocons
They seem to enjoy being complete assholes, & they love hurting us. This is why I cannot wait until the tide turns. I want to give back everything they threw at us. I want them to know the Hell people on our side have gone through because of them.

Oh, well--Hitchens is just a pathetic drunk, anyway.
