We need Air America stations in Iowa and New Hampshire |
And if you or someone you know is in a position to buy a radio station, I'll let you in on a little business advice: Air America stations in New Hampshire and Iowa are a guaranteed money maker for the next two years. All those Iowa and New Hampshire Democrats who will be voting in the causcus and primary would be listening. As the campaign starts next year (and even a little bit this year), the Democratic candidates will be looking for a place to buy ad time where Democrats listen to the radio. Air America stations in Iowa and New Hampshire would make a shitload of money in 2007 and early 2008 just from all of the ad time bought up by Democratic presidential candidates. I can't believe nobody has taken advantage of this opportunity yet.

1. You have to find the stations for sale first... and even then.. |
.. there's lots of FCC red tape (almost more than just STARTING a new station.. which wouldn't be a bad thing either).

3. We have one in Davenport, |
but you lose the signal about twenty miles west down I80. I drove to Idaho last summer and didn't hear AAR from Walcott, Ia. to western Nebraska/eastern Wyoming when I picked up the Boulder, Co. station. That's almost 800 miles of nothing but Rush, Sean, and Dr. Laura. Why doesn't Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Omaha, or Lincoln have AAR stations? Fairly big markets all of them.

4. I don't know anything about Iowa |
but NH only has so many stations, and with the mountains you need a lot of transmitters to get coverage. Perhaps in the southern half of the state.
I'd love to get AirAmerica, but I don't know how it would fare surviving as a full commercial station. It'd have to be a limited start, and preferably from an existing station, otherwise the licensing would be a nightmare, I'd think, just to secure the frequencies.

5. We'd love one (and need one) in the KCK/KCMO area |
If you want to change the way the heartland votes that is. Most stations in the KCK/KCMO area broadcast to a lot of those purple areas. If you want placement that makes a difference an AAR station in the midwest would be the way to go.
Oh yeah, not that a local station (for me) means I wouldn't be tied to the computer all day listening. :eyes:

6. I'm in New Hampshire and pick up Air America from Vermont. |
AM 1490. If you're in southwestern NH you might get it.
