Olympic Spoilers Head's Up Warning......no results here...justa'rant
I flipped over to CNN from an idiotic Maury/Connie afternoon show to check on the "news" and the nor'easter. They were reading off medal winners. Of course, of those events to be covered delayed on NBFC primetime tonight.

I am soooooooo pithed. Does NBFC not get "spoilers" from their competitors? Is this tape delay/edit.

Thanks guys for letting me

1. Well, considering I haven't cared about the Olympics since 1972
It's all moot to me.

The response to the Palestinian slaughter of Jewish athlete in Munich killed the Olympics for me. As far as I am concerned, the Olympics do not exist!

28. Read the book "One Day In September."
The response was a "who gives a shit about the Israelis. The games must go on!"

18. Pretty much...
Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 04:52 PM by Rosco T.
the system wasn't that expensive (about $140 shipped from Toronto) and my bill is about $50/mo... get everthing that I can get on reg sat (and then some...) and some exceptional programming we don't get down here (one that comes to mind is "This is Wonderland").

Anyone that want's to get their own, I'll point you to a reputable hardware dealer and a reputable address broker (they subscribe on your behalf, but you still have to pay the bill).

21. No bigger than a DISHNetwork or DirecTV dish..
you'll most likely have to install it yourself, but it's not that hard.

go over to www.kusat.com and check out the Starchoice systems, I have a 505 receiver (HD + RegTV) with the 75cm eliptical dish.

PM me if you want my broker's email.

24. One thing I forgot to mention..
..you'll pretty much have to do WITHOUT...

- annoying crawls on the programming (telling you what you're watching), except on CTV
- mouthy announcers talking over the end of shows (except on CTV)
- squished/mashed credits (except on CTV)

- blantent censorship of language (about the only thing I hear edited is F*ck.. and the
depending on the hour not that).

29. I remember watching them live in school years ago
I have a History teacher who was only a history teacher because he had to teach something so he could be the coach of all the sports teams. He loved his sports! He brought in a black and white tv, foil added to the antenna to boost the signal, and we watched them everyday in class. I don't think they should be delayed. You want to carry them, carry them live. With all the ways people can record tv or access it on the web, there is no reason not to show them live. Those that want to watch would find a way.

4. I can't get excited about the Winter Olympics
Edited on Sat Feb-11-06 04:42 PM by bluestateguy
I'll be watching the Beijing Olympics instead, and watching the neo-con heads explode as Communist China bathes in Olympic glory.

On edit: Not that I would enjoy a full display of the glory of Chinese Communism, but watching the neo-cons pout about it would be kind of funny to watch.

I don't think that the Olympics should be a venue for any country to showcase its militarism and nationalism for the rest of the world.

11. It doesn't take a neo con
to find the notion of that country bathing in any glory to be a disgusting notion. It will be a replay of the Berlin Olympics of 36 and we should all be ashamed.

15. China is a despotic dictatorship
which has no business hosting the Olympics. The blood of the Tianamen martyrs will cry out when the world pays homage to the decendents of the butchers of Beijing.

22. I don't believe in boycotting the olympics once the venue is chosen
but the venue shouldn't have been chosen in the first place. We were wrong to boycott the Soviet olympics as they were wrong to boycot ours. That said, a boycot of Berlin would have been wise since Hitler was a different matter altogether.

27. ...
So why should we be ashamed? The people that choose the locations are the same people that do business in china everyday? I don't do business with China and it sounds like you don't either.

Also, are people free to leave china any time they like?

26. Aw man!! that sounds great....
If he's played all this time he must really know the game and can appreciate the artistry and emotion involved. I'm jealous.

Here in Chicago we pretty much watch it in our neighborhood ethnic bars. There are a few for every nationality and they get pretty caught up in the fever when their country competes. It actually is quite exciting especially in the later rounds.

Sadly, I've never seen it "for Real" :nopity:

16. I LOVE CBC....I lived in upstate NY during the '96 Atlanta
Summer Games....bless their hearts, they covered those games live too.

Which is alot to say since there was no "international time zones" for the East coast, but still had to wait til prime time for the main events.

17. Well, I, for one, always enjoy the Olympics, winter and summer
I think they're exciting as hell, and fascinating. I am enjoying the current RW controversy over the name Torino being used, rather than the English Turin. Seems every newspaper has "taken a position" on which name to use, and even the wingers over at RedState are furious at NBC for using the name Torino....which the city prefers, and the Olympic Committee has also endorsed. I guess to the Wingers, the English version is always best, and besides, using the name Turin would constantly remind viewers of the Shroud of Turin. Those wacky wingers.
