I think the stem cell issue could become a very effective wedge |
|
issue for us. I bet the overwhelming majority of Dems and independents support it, while the Puggies are likely to be very divided. For example, Orrin Hatch--believe it or not--supports stem cell work, while a lot of fundies don't. The issue needs to be handled with some delicacy, of course, but I think this is exactly the kind of issue we could turn to our advantage if we were to take a page out of the Wingnut playbook. There are no doubt a fair number of issues like this that we could legitimately use to energize a majority while fracturing the hardcore opposition.

I can think of several big name repugs who have flip-flopped all over the stem-cell issue. Bill Frist and George Allen come to mind.

Witness the Schiavo fiasco and that vast majority of Americans don't want government and a bunch of religious extremists forcing their views on them. It is a PRIVATE matter and nobody has the right to intrude. I even heard some calling for the abolishment of LIVING WILLS. Can you believe that one?

6. Dr. Fristenstein supports stem cell research, all of the sudden |
|
Forgot that he supported it for years, but when he started planning a Presidential run, he thought it would be a good idea to come out in support of stem cell research. Of course, that "insider trading" thing might get in the way, but...
I do agree with you. The issues could/should put the GOP back on their heels. This is what people are talking aobut, when they say Democrats need to be for things, instead of merely being against Republicans.
