Oops! - Bush Unaware Mikes Were Still On
Sat Feb 11, 10:08 AM ET

CAMBRIDGE, Md. - The eavesdropping tables were turned on

President Bush on Friday. The president apparently believed he was speaking privately when he talked about listening in without a warrant on domestic communications with suspected al-Qaida terrorists overseas. But reporters were the ones doing the listening in this time.

...........................

When reporters left, Bush spoke about the National Security Agency program that he authorized four years ago and which has drawn criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike.

However, the microphones stayed on for a few minutes. That allowed journalists back at the White House to eavesdrop on Bush's defense of the eavesdropping. His private statements were basically no different from what he's said in public.

"I want to share some thoughts with you before I answer your questions," Bush began. "First of all, I expect this conversation we're about to have to stay in the room. I know that's impossible in Washington." He was right.

6. I think so too
They don't leave their mics on very easily either. If they want you to know something they'll do it.

2. Yes. Deliberately.
So he could be "overheard" in "private" talking the same bullshit he talks about publicly. A set-up.

14. Precisely.
Cheesy ploy to lend credibility to their lies about spying on Americans. If it wasn't a setup, then why would he be concerned that '...this conversation we're about to have to stay in the room' when he has already spoken about it in the freakin SOTU speech?

I heard that was a set-up
That he did that on purpose and revealed nothing in the alleged "secret" meeting.
It was to show, "See, we have nothing to hide really".

If that is the case, then what bulls##t!

11. It's a set-up. It was an ingenius move on his part.
Expect him and other Repubs to use it against Democrats. "You shouldn't have to worry if you've got nothing to hide."

12. "his private statements were basically no different"
there's your big tipoff.

his private statements were basically no different because THEY WEREN'T PRIVATE.

the big clue that you've caught someone unaware of an open mike is when they say something EMBARASSING.
if he had started swearing like a drunk sailor (instead of merely SPENDING like a drunk sailor), i MIGHT have bought it.

16. You just GOTTA know ...
... that if mikes were inadvertently left on and Bush didn't know it, we would have heard a MUCH DIFFERENT STORY than the one we're expected to believe now.

17. I believe that was all staged so that he could say something
about the domestic spying and pretend to be shocked that the mikes were on.

Do I need a tin foil hat for this theory?:tinfoilhat: I don''t think so since several upthread think the same thing.

18. Of course... Our "Leader" has integrity!
Of course he never says anything in public that doesn't reflect his private views! The man is our President, he's honest and hard working. A man of true integrity. A man who would never lie to the American people. He is trustworthy and honest. A fine example for our children. :sarcasm:

Damn, that was both painful and wishful! It's never so poignant--the loss we've suffered for having Presidents who lack even the smallest bit of integrity and honesty--as when you actually write the words... "the President is always honest with the citizens". Obviously, few Presidents (if any) have ever been absolutely honest, but there have been a number who were as honest as they could be given their circumstances--that is, at least some of them held personal and professional integrity and honesty as being generally desirable, worthwhile or ideal qualities.

The current liar--between his delusions, general contempt for the American people, and pathological habit of lying--couldn't (or wouldn't) tell the truth if his life and/or the lives of all Americans depended upon it. I'd be surprised if anyone could point to a single statement--even a single sentence, even one referring to a triviality--that he's ever spoken that's wholly true (that is both true and not a lie of omission).
