Misunderstood words of a foreign born Prof
It was baffling at first. The Prof was from India and was talking about an assignment to write a computer program.

He kept saying what sounded to me like, "So just devil up some code."

I was thinking, huh? Is this some kinda weird expression I never heard before. I didn't want to ask cause, based on the reactions of the rest of the students, either everyone else knew what it meant or something was wrong.

For quite a few minutes I kept thinking, what an odd expression. "Devil up some programming code?"

Finally after a while, I realized he was saying "develop," not "devil up."

;)

Made me think of the cartoon controversey and misunderstandings.

8. I had a Russian history prof who spoke with a thick Polish accent.
One day he said something that sounded like "the emasculation of the naked Russian saints". I was half dozing at the time, and, of course, I immediately perked up, 'cuz I thought was going to hear something interesting for a change. I finally figured out what he said was actually "the canonization of the native Russian saints". What a let-down!
