Domestic eavesdropping probe widens - Simply un-believable
Investigation centers on who leaked program to press, paper reports

Updated: 7:53 p.m. ET Feb. 11, 2006
NEW YORK - Federal agents have interviewed officials at several law enforcement and national security agencies in a criminal investigation into The New York Times’ disclosure of a U.S. domestic eavesdropping program, the newspaper reported.

In a story posted to its Web site to appear in its Sunday editions, The Times said the investigation was focused on circumstances surrounding its disclosure late last year of the highly classified program.

Officials and others interviewed by the Times said the investigation seemed to lay the groundwork for a grand jury inquiry and possible criminal charges, the Times said.

Many described the investigation as aggressive and fast moving, with the initial focus on identifying government officials who have had contacts with Times reporters, particularly those in the newspaper’s Washington bureau.

5. Perhaps something more along the lines of SAVAK.
Wasn't that more or less a turn key CIA operation?

6. Is it a crime to report a crime?
Seems to me that a criminal proceeding can't be launched if the person is reporting an illegal act of this administration.

7. Good on the Times for reporting and using the proper term Domestic Eaves-
dropping aka Domestic Spying.

I'm trying to get people to remember this isn't about "illegal wire tapping" as if it was a matter of a minor technicality, or "terrorist surveilance" orwellian term for Domestic Spying.

That's what this is. Domestic Spying. Please correct anyone you're talking to, that this isn't "illegal wiretapping" ---- this is Domestic Spying.

High Crimes and Treason.

"illegal wiretapping" = minor technical problem, to be fixed in the PA reauthorization, and corrected retroactively.

no no no no no no no.

9. Funny how they know what library books we're reading...
but they don't know what's going on in their own administration.

10. No disclosure, just another leaky liberal

An investigation is what the Times would like to see, won't happen this year cause its an election year an investigation hurts democrats chances in Nov
and it hurts Republicans who need to keep a lid on their eavesdropping procedures as the islamofascist is watching, over 50% of the American public does not want the politicians to show the USA intelligent hand and give the bearded men in dirty night shirts an edge to bite again.
