Thank you, James Comey
>Justice Deputy Resisted Parts of Spy Program
Submitted by davidswanson on Sun, 2006-01-01 11:52. Media
By ERIC LICHTBLAU and JAMES RISEN, New York Times

WASHINGTON, Dec. 31 - A top Justice Department official objected in 2004 to aspects of the National Security Agency's domestic surveillance program and refused to sign on to its continued use amid concerns about its legality and oversight, according to officials with knowledge of the tense internal debate. The concerns appear to have played a part in the temporary suspension of the secret program.<

If nobody else here is going to do this, I'm going to ;-).

Thank you, Mr. Comey, for standing up to protect my privacy and my civil rights against those in this administration who don't have our best interests at heart. You are one of the good guys.

While I'm at it, thank you for appointing Patrick Fitzgerald.

Julie

1. You can feel the loathing of this guy from the Right...
Yesterday they had talking heads spinning on Hardball that despite initial objections he chose to go along with it later to try to minimize the damage but you can tell that between the wiretaps and Fitz they are burning with anger at Comey.

I'll go one better and god knows I never knew I'd say this...

Thank you John Ashcroft for protecting my civil liberties at least in this one instance... but fuck you for compiling list of anti-war protesters and being a dick in general otherwise...

:)

3. I heard yesterday
that Comey did put a small delay in the wiretapping but in the end was fully FOR it. So I'm not sure he deserves too much thanks. I'm interested to hear more about him.

4. He can expect attacks
Comey can expect to hear a lot of attacks on his patriotism and moral character from his own party from now on.

2. I thank Mr. Comey too! In yesterday's NY Daily News... The Shrub nicknamed
Comey "Cuomo"....

'Cuomo' angers Bush

President Bush was so angry when Acting Attorney General Jim Comey blocked his secret program to spy on Americans, he called the former Manhattan prosecutor a name no red-blooded Republican wants to hear - Cuomo.
Bush dubbed Comey after former New York Gov. Mario Cuomo, a staunchly liberal Democrat, Newsweek reported this week.

7. Gosh, a snotty little nickname
>a name no red-blooded Republican wants to hear - Cuomo<

What's * going to do next -- give him a wedgie? Take his lunch money? Beat him up after school?

I appreciate the man for simply standing up to them. There's been residual damage to the * administration, whether or not some here believe it. The talking heads would not have landed on Mr. Comey with everything they've got this morning if this was not a fact.

10. He's great!
He would be a great attorney general for the next democratic administration or something like that. He's been a life savor!
