Intel pros say Bush is lying about foiling 2002 terror attack
By DOUG THOMPSON
02/11

http://www.e-thepeople.org/article/51075/view

Outraged intelligence professionals say President George W. Bush is "cheapening" and "politicizing" their work with claims the United States foiled a planned terrorist attack against Los Angeles in 2002.

"The President has cheapened the entire intelligence community by dragging us into his fantasy world," says a longtime field operative of the Central Intelligence Agency. "He is basing this absurd claim on the same discredited informant who told us Al Qaeda would attack selected financial institutions in New York and Washington."

Within hours of the President’s speech Thursday claiming his administration had prevented a major attack, sources who said they were current and retired intelligence pros from the CIA, NSA, FBI and military contacted Capitol Hill Blue with angry comments disputing the President’s remarks.

18. Does Rupert Murdoch a -- Bush Family Employer-- own the Chicago Sun-Times?
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 01:47 AM by PhilipShore
Chicago Sun-Times
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago_Sun-Times

It is best known internationally as the employer of the influential film critic Roger Ebert. The newspaper gave a start in journalism to now disgraced Bob Greene. From 1978 to 1984, when the paper was purchased by Rupert Murdoch...

Center for American Progress

Who is Rupert Murdoch?

http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=122948

MURDOCH THE BUSH SUPPORTER: Murdoch told Newsweek before the war, Bush "will either go down in history as a very great president or he'll crash and burn. I'm optimistic it will be the former by a ratio of 2 to 1…One senses he is a man of great character and deep humility."

MURDOCH THE BUSH FAMILY EMPLOYER: As Slate reports, Murdoch "put George W. Bush cousin John Ellis in charge of Election Night vote-counting operation: Ellis made Fox the first network to declare Bush the victor" even as the New Yorker reported that Ellis spent the evening discussing the election with George W. and Jeb Bush. After the election, Fox bragged that it attracted 6.8 million viewers on Election Night, meaning Ellis was in a key position to tilt the election for President Bush.

51. Murdoch doesn't own the Sun-Times
He used to, but the only US paper Murdoch owns now is the NY Post.

The Sun-Times is now owned by Hollinger International Inc.

Murdoch was generally hated during his relatively brief stewardship of the Sun-Times. The late Mike Royko, the paper's beloved columnist quit over Rupert:

In 1984, he left the Sun-Times after it was sold to a group headed by Rupert Murdoch (Rupert Murdoch: United States publisher (born in Australia in 1931)) , for whom Royko said he would never work. He famously claimed, "No self-respecting fish would be wrapped in a Murdoch paper" and that, "His goal is not quality journalism. His goal is vast power for Rupert Murdoch, political power."

53. Pat Fitzgerald: Black, 3 Others Indicted for looting Chicago Sun-Times
Washington Post
Conrad Black, 3 Others Indicted
By Frank Ahrens and Peter Slevin
Washington Post Staff Writers
Friday, November 18, 2005; D01

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/11/17/AR2005111700910_pf.html

CHICAGO, Nov. 17 -- Disgraced international press tycoon Conrad M. Black, who stepped down as head of his media empire in 2004 after he and other executives were accused of looting the company, was indicted Thursday on eight counts of wire and mail fraud.

U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald said Black -- who renounced his Canadian citizenship in 2001 to accept a British lordship -- "lived large" off of company shareholders, helping to steal $51.8 million from Hollinger International Inc., which owns the Chicago Sun-Times and once owned the Jerusalem Post, London's Daily Telegraph and hundreds of smaller newspapers in the United States and Canada.

Fitzgerald -- the special prosecutor who brought criminal charges against Vice President Cheney's chief of staff, I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby -- issued an arrest warrant for Black, 61, who faces as much as 40 years in prison and $5 million in fines if convicted on all charges. Fitzgerald said he would seek Black's extradition if he does not turn himself in.

I hope the King funeral remarks will only get a small mention for I know that Republicans will want to bring them up.

None of us should be surprised that Bushco is capable of exagerated claims of success, the staged toppling of the Saddam statue, "Mission Accomplished" aboard the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln and the relentless insistance that the recent election in Iraq will quell the insurgency, come to mind.

10. I'm starting to wonder if Rove selected the "Liberty Tower"
because he actually believed that to be the name of the building.

Had they been right about the name, they could have attempted to give new meaning to "protecting liberty." Yeah, that must be it.

23. This reminds me of a Maxwell Smart plot from the old "Get Smart" series.
Considered how ridiculous Bush's thwarting of the shoe bomber theory is.

Anyone trained in explosives could probably teach someone how to make a shoe bomb in 30 min or less. The perpetrators in this case had to go to Afghanistan to learn. Maybe they were slow learners. They probably went to the Shoe Bomb Academy there. They then went to another country (Iran?) for advanced training. (Yeah, right)

Then there is the problem of enough force to blow open the door, but too little to blow off the cockpit.

If detonation were to be through concussion, presumably the perpetrator would kick the door. That of course would at least blow off his foot. Now he has to steer the plane with a stump on one leg.

If a fuse were used, the shoe would have to be attached to the door. What do you suppose the attendants and passengers would be doing while some Arab is duct-taping a shoe to the cockpit door with a book of matches in his hands?

The scenario is so stupid I'm surprised Bush's handlers would let him make a fool of himself with that lie. It must be desperation time in the White House.

44. Well, their idea is
If you throw enough BS out there, some of it bound to stick, or at least create enough of a reasonable doubt in some people's minds.

Many people would have missed the Bush press conference, but will see newspaper headlines saying "Domestic spying stopped 2002 attack in LA" and then not read the whole article, or just the headline.

As soon as I heard that story on the radio, I immediately called bullshit.

If that was true, why drag it out four years later, to tout the success of your wiretapping efforts? Oh wait, could it be because your wiretapping is a)illegal, and b)ineffective?

Yeah, I'd say that's it. Gee, what a surprise! :sarcasm:

28. Maybe because the NYT is no longer credible? Didn't they hold back
the wire-tapping story for over a year? Maybe the experts DID contact them and realized they would not print the story?

Maybe they remembered Judith Miller and the WMD fabrications? If I had an important story the last place I would take it is to the NYT. They would probably call up Rove to let him know who I was and I might not be around much longer.

I have found, over the past several years, that even the tabloid media is more credible than the NYT. And CNN?? The network that just hired Bill (the gambler) Bennett, and two other rightwing hacks? Who, on CNN would dare to call Bush a liar? Wolf Blitzer? Paula Zahn? Larry King?

Capital Hill Blue has been right way more often than the NYT or CNN over the past few years.

When I confirmed it—it was on The Chicago Sun-times. They must have removed it from their paper just as I copied the link, which I usually do not double check. The link was actually changed to another site just as I was posting it here, so I thought it was the Chicago Sun-Times link.
