4. this is a few bad apples - abu ghraib is not
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 02:02 AM by daveskilt
in war some stupid soldiers will do this. but they don't pack hoods, and torture equipment and then all act in the same systematic way in multiple places without orders to do it.

I have a friend in the air force - he flew people from abu ghraib to the US new torure location in kurdish controlled mosul.
When the detainees found out where they were going they had to be chained to the plane and some of them lost control of their bowels.

on edit: the brit guys still need court martieled. the US court martials just need to go higher - bush and rummy eg

9. This is much worse.
these troops pulled unarmed kids behind a protective wall and pummeled them viciously.

Give me 5 mins with each of these punks

naaa actually I'll only need a few secs for each.

8. looks to me like an ordinary "riot beating" from soldiers or cops
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 02:12 AM by tocqueville
that lose their temper. I've seen far worse from some US cops beating black suspects or even European cops beating white rioters. They guy that got the most is obviously the one that didn't want to sit down and be handcuffed.

It should be of course punished and is not acceptable. But I agree with you that it has nothing to do with systematic torture.

11. Huh ?
did you not hear the guy on the tape ? He knew what was going to happen before they got behind the wall.
The kid didn't want to sit down ? Didn't look to me like they gave him much of a choice.

If you think that this wasn't planned or something that hasn't been practiced before ,you might want to read the news report on the other link.

16. I condemn it and it happened probably before
Edited on Sun Feb-12-06 02:42 AM by tocqueville
but it has nothing to do with sodomizing kids with brooms, drowning people in a tub... etc...

it's "ordinary" police violence in a tense situation. With frustrated soldiers. What I think is positive is that the Brits take it up. It's going to be intresting to see what punishment the Brits are going to deal with...

But I agree with daveskilt, this is not Abu Grahib, which BTW is the lite version of what is happening in other places.

15. But this video is of an occupying "liberating" force
Doesn't say much for the liberation of a foreign country, does it?

17. the point is not there
it's the degree of violence which is the point. Far worse have been done to completely pacific protestors during the 60s both by cops and National Guard. Some were even shot to death. In their own country.

By today's standards the violence on the video is unacceptable. But in the British case I see it more as the result of frustration by some individuals than the pattern of systematic violence against civilians in US controlled areas.
